Jazz Richards was born in Swansea, Wales. He played football for his school and a local club called West End. Then, he joined the Cardiff City Academy. After two seasons, he left and joined the academy at Swansea City. He was fifteen years old.

Richards first played as a central midfielder. But his manager, Roberto Martínez, moved him to play as a defender. This was because there were many good midfielders on the team. He has played as a defender ever since.

After playing for the youth and reserve teams, Richards played his first professional game for Swansea. This was in a Championship match against Middlesbrough on August 15, 2009. He came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute. He played 15 games in the 2009–10 season. After this, he signed a new two-year contract with Swansea.

At the start of the 2010–11 season, Richards was often a substitute or played for the reserve team. He played his first game of the season on January 3, 2011, against Leicester City. This happened because many defenders were injured. He got more chances to play in January and February. But he lost his spot when Àngel Rangel returned from injury. He played eight games in the 2010–11 season. Swansea City was promoted to the Premier League that year. They were the first Welsh team to do so.

Richards made his Premier League debut on October 15, 2011. He came on as a substitute against Norwich City. A few days later, he signed a new contract. He then started his first Premier League game on December 3, 2011, against Blackburn Rovers. Later in the 2011–12 season, he played with the reserve team to get back in shape. He played eight games that season.

Loan to Crystal Palace in 2013

In the 2012–13 season, Richards found it hard to get into Swansea's main team. He wanted to leave on loan to get more experience. In the first half of the season, he played only four games for Swansea. These were all in cup competitions. In January 2013, he joined Crystal Palace on loan.

He played his first game for Crystal Palace on January 30, 2013, against Huddersfield Town. In his next game, he helped his team score a winning goal against Charlton Athletic. While on loan, he signed a new contract with Swansea until June 2016. He played 11 games for Crystal Palace. He was also a substitute in the 2013 Championship play-off final. Crystal Palace won and got promoted to the Premier League.

Loan to Huddersfield Town

After returning to Swansea, Richards played his first game of the 2013–14 season. This was in a Europa League qualifier against Malmö. On September 10, 2013, Richards joined Huddersfield Town on a short loan.

He played his first game for Huddersfield Town on September 17, 2013, against Charlton Athletic. His loan ended on December 17, after he played 9 games. After his loan, Richards did not play again until February 16, 2014. This was in an FA Cup game against Everton. He did not play any more games that season.

Back at Swansea

In the 2014–15 season, Richards played his first game in the League Cup. This was on August 26, 2014, against Rotherham United. He then played his first Premier League game in two years on September 27, 2014, against Sunderland.

Richards played a few more games in 2014. But he had trouble competing for his spot and also had some injuries. In a game against Tottenham Hotspur on December 14, 2014, Richards made a mistake that led to a goal. He apologized to Swansea City fans for this. His manager, Garry Monk, supported him and kept him in the team.

This was Richards' last season with Swansea. He played only 51 games for the club in six years. Only 18 of these were in the Premier League.

Playing for Fulham

On January 24, 2015, Richards joined Fulham on a one-month loan. He played his first game for Fulham on January 31, 2015, against Blackburn Rovers. After playing five games, his loan was extended until the end of the season. Richards played 14 games for Fulham during this loan.

On July 2, 2015, Swansea agreed to let Richards join Fulham permanently. He signed a three-year contract. He played 22 games in his only season as a permanent player at Fulham. He became a regular player when he was fit. But before the 2016–17 season, Fulham's manager wanted Ryan Fredericks to play at right-back. So, Fulham accepted an offer from Cardiff City for Richards.

Time at Cardiff City

On July 19, 2016, Richards joined Cardiff City. He signed a three-year deal. He played his first game for Cardiff City against Birmingham City.

Richards started the season playing regularly. But he got injured in September and missed three months. He returned on January 2, 2017. He then played in ten of the next twelve games. He felt he had "a lot more to show." In his first season with Cardiff, he played 26 league games, which was his highest number yet.

At the start of the next season, Richards got injured again. He had ankle surgery in September 2017. He returned in January 2018 and played five games. But another injury ended his season early. He played only eleven games that season. Cardiff City finished second in the league and got promoted. Richards left Cardiff City when his contract ended in 2020.

In April 2022, Richards scored his first professional goals. He scored three goals in one game against Cefn Druids. After this, he signed a two-year contract extension until the end of the 2023–24 season.

Richards played for Haverfordwest in the Europa Conference League in 2023. They played against teams like KF Shkendija and B36 Torshavn. In May 2024, Richards' contract with Haverfordwest ended. He was not part of the team for the 2024–25 season.
