Club History and Moves
This football club started on December 17, 1982. It was first called the Yukong Elephants. The club was one of the first teams to join the K League. The Sunkyoung Group's company, Yukong (now called SK Energy), owned and supported the team.
The Yukong Elephants played in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi at first. They won the league championship once, in 1989.
Moving from Seoul to Bucheon
In 1995, the K League wanted teams to move out of Seoul. So, the Yukong Elephants moved from the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul to the Mokdong Stadium. This stadium was on the western side of Seoul.
Later, the Seoul government asked the three clubs in Seoul to leave. They said the clubs could come back if they built their own football stadiums in Seoul. Because of this, the Yukong Elephants moved to a city near Seoul called Bucheon. In 1997, the club changed its name to Bucheon SK.
Since Bucheon did not have a stadium ready, the team kept playing at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul until 2000. In 2001, Bucheon SK finally moved to its new home, the Bucheon Leports Complex. This stadium could hold many fans.
Moving to Jeju Island
In 2006, Bucheon SK made a big announcement. They decided to move to Jeju without telling anyone beforehand. When they moved, they changed their name again to Jeju United FC. They made the Jeju World Cup Stadium their new home. This stadium was empty at the time.
