Jemile Weeks (born January 26, 1987) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as a second baseman and outfielder. Jemile played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for several teams. These teams include the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and San Diego Padres.

Jemile is the younger brother of another former MLB second baseman, Rickie Weeks. He played college baseball at the University of Miami.

Early Baseball Days

Jemile Weeks went to Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs, Florida. In high school, he was a great baseball player. As a junior, he hit for a .472 batting average. He helped his team win a conference title. Weeks also earned All-State honors twice. He even played football for two seasons.

After high school, Weeks went to the University of Miami. In his first year, he hit .352. He was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. In his final year at Miami, he hit .363 with 13 home runs.

Draft Choices

The Milwaukee Brewers picked Weeks in the 2005 MLB draft. This was in the eighth round. However, he decided to go to the University of Miami instead. He wanted to play college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes.

Professional Baseball Career

Oakland Athletics Years

The Oakland Athletics chose Jemile Weeks in the 2008 MLB Draft. He was the twelfth player picked overall.

In 2008, Weeks played for the Kane County Cougars. He was batting .297 in nineteen games. His season ended early due to a hip injury. In 2009, he played in the Arizona Fall League. He was named a Rising Star there.

Weeks was called up to the major leagues on June 7, 2011. He won the MLB Rookie of the Month Award for June 2011. He batted .309 that month. He also had seven doubles and six stolen bases.

In 2012, Weeks hit .220 with 15 stolen bases. On August 22, 2012, he was sent to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. This happened when the A's added new players.

Time with Other Teams

Baltimore Orioles

On December 2, 2013, Weeks was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He played only three games for Baltimore. He got 3 hits in 11 tries. Weeks spent most of 2014 in the minor leagues. He played for several Orioles farm teams. He had a .303 batting average in the minors.

Boston Red Sox

The Orioles traded Weeks to the Boston Red Sox on August 30, 2014. He was later removed from the team's main roster. He was sent to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.

San Diego Padres

On January 14, 2016, Weeks signed a contract with the San Diego Padres. He started the season in Triple-A. He was called up to the major leagues on April 20. In 17 games with the Padres, Weeks hit only .140. He later chose to become a free agent.

Chicago Cubs

Weeks signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on December 22, 2016. He played for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. In 63 games, he hit .235 with 2 home runs. He became a free agent again after the season.

Acereros de Monclova

On February 13, 2018, Weeks signed with the Acereros de Monclova. This team is in the Mexican Baseball League. He was released from the team on July 3, 2018.
