History of Jennings
The first post office in Jennings opened in 1874. It was first called Slab City until 1879.
The city of Jennings was officially planned out in 1888. It got its name from Warren Jennings, who owned land in the area.
Jennings was also a stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line. Many Czech immigrants chose Jennings to settle and start their farms.

Jennings used to have its own schools, but they closed during school unification. The mascot for Jennings High School was the Coyotes.
