Jens Jeremies (born on March 5, 1974) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a defensive midfielder, which is a player who helps protect the team's goal.

Jens was known for his strong tackling skills. He played for three different clubs during his career. His most famous time was with Bayern Munich. There, he won many important titles. These included six Bundesliga titles (Germany's top football league), four DFB-Pokal trophies (a big cup competition), and one Champions League title (Europe's biggest club competition).

He stopped playing football when he was 32 years old. This was because he had many injuries, especially with his knees. Jens also played 55 games for the German national team. He represented his country in two World Cups and two European Championships. He even started in the 2002 World Cup final, where Germany played against Brazil.

Playing for Clubs

Starting Out: Dynamo Dresden and 1860 Munich

Jens Jeremies was born in Görlitz, which was in East Germany at the time. When he was 12, he joined the youth team of Dynamo Dresden. This was a very important football club in Germany.

He didn't play much for the senior team at Dynamo Dresden at first. His first game was on April 1, 1995. His team lost 3-1 to TSV 1860 München. That season, Dynamo Dresden left the Bundesliga, which is the top German league.

In 1995, Jens moved to 1860 Munich. He helped his new team qualify for the UEFA Cup in his second year. This is another big European club competition. During his three years at 1860 Munich, he received 30 yellow cards and two red cards. These cards are given by the referee for fouls or bad behavior during a game.

Big Success at Bayern Munich

In the summer of 1998, Jens Jeremies joined FC Bayern Munich, which was 1860 Munich's city rival. He stayed with Bayern Munich for the rest of his career. It was with Bayern that he won all his major trophies.

He won six league titles and three domestic cups with Bayern. He also helped them win the Champions League in 2001. He played 12 games in that Champions League season and scored three goals. One of his goals was in the semi-final against Real Madrid, which helped Bayern win. However, he could not play in the final game because he was suspended.

In his last two years of playing, Jens only played 20 matches. This was mainly because of ongoing knee problems. He decided to retire from football at 32 years old. Overall, he played in 251 matches in the German top division and scored nine goals.

Playing for Germany

While he was playing for 1860 Munich, Jens Jeremies also started playing for the Germany national football team. His first game for Germany was on November 15, 1997. It was a friendly match against South Africa, and Germany won 3-0.

He was chosen to be part of the German squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He played in three games before Germany was knocked out in the quarter-finals.

On March 31, 1999, Jens scored his first and only goal for the national team. It was in a game against Finland during the qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2000. Germany won 2-0. This goal was even chosen as the "Goal of the Month" in Germany.

Jens was later brought back into the team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He even got to be the captain of the team once in a friendly game after the World Cup. However, he decided to stop playing for the national team after Germany was knocked out in the group stage of UEFA Euro 2004 in Portugal. He said he wanted to focus more on playing for his club, Bayern Munich.
