Jerktail is found in the northern part of Wright County, Missouri. Missouri is a state in the central United States.

The community is close to some natural features. It sits about two miles west of the Gasconade River. This river flows through much of Missouri. Jerktail is also about three miles south of a town called Competition. Competition is in the next county over, Laclede County.
The Story Behind Its Names
Jerktail has had a few different names over time. Sometimes it was called "Jerk Tail." Another name it used to have was "Mint."
Why Was It Called Mint?
The name "Mint" came from nature. There were many wild mint plants growing near where the community first started. These plants gave the area a fresh, minty smell.
The Mint Post Office
A post office was opened in Jerktail in 1889. It was named the Mint post office. This office helped people send and receive mail. It served the community for many years. The Mint post office closed down in 1910.
