Jerome Cardell White (born August 23, 1952), known as Jerry White, is a former American professional baseball player and coach. He was born in Shirley, Massachusetts. Jerry was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 164 pounds. He could bat from both sides of the plate (a switch hitter). He threw the ball with his right hand.

Jerry played for 11 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). His teams included the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Cardinals. He also played two seasons in Japan for the Seibu Lions and Yokohama Taiyo Whales. After playing, he became a coach. He was a first base coach for the Minnesota Twins for 14 seasons.

Jerry White's Baseball Journey

Playing in the Major Leagues

Jerry White started his professional baseball career after high school. The Montreal Expos picked him in the 1970 baseball draft. He made his first big league appearance on September 16, 1974. He played in center field for the Expos.

His first full season in MLB was in 1976. He played 114 games for the Expos that year. On June 23, 1978, Jerry was traded to the Chicago Cubs. He played 59 games for the Cubs. Later that year, on December 14, 1978, he was traded back to the Montreal Expos.

In December 1985, Jerry signed with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played his last MLB game on June 9, 1986. It was against the Montreal Expos, the team he played for the most.

Over 11 seasons, Jerry played in 646 games. He had a batting average of .253. He hit 21 home runs and had 109 RBI. He also stole 57 bases. Jerry was a good fielder. He played all three outfield positions.

Playing in Winter Baseball

Jerry also played baseball during the winter months. He played in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. He played for the Navegantes del Magallanes and Águilas del Zulia teams.

A special moment came in the 1979 Caribbean Series. Jerry played for the Magallanes team from Venezuela. He was the only player to get a hit in every game. He led all hitters with a .522 batting average. He had 12 hits and 5 runs in the series.

Becoming a Baseball Coach

After his playing days, Jerry White became a coach. He was hired as the first base coach for the Minnesota Twins in 1998. He coached for the Twins for many years. In October 2012, the Twins decided to make changes to their coaching staff. Jerry was one of the coaches who left the team.

Special Achievements

In February 2006, Jerry White received a special honor. He was put into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame. This honor was for his important contributions to the Caribbean Series. Other great players were also honored that day.
