Baseball Journey
Jesen Therrien started his baseball journey playing college baseball at Ahuntsic College in Québec City, Canada.
Joining the Phillies
The New York Mets first picked Jesen in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. However, he decided not to sign with them at that time.
The next year, in 2011, the Philadelphia Phillies chose him in their draft. This time, Jesen signed with the team and began his professional career.
Starting in the Minor Leagues
Jesen started playing professionally in 2012 with a team called the Gulf Coast Phillies. He pitched well in 12 games. The next year, he continued to play for the same team.
In 2014, Jesen played for two different teams: the Williamsport Crosscutters and the Lakewood BlueClaws. He pitched in 35 games that year.
Moving Up the Ranks
Jesen continued to improve in 2015. He played for the Lakewood BlueClaws and then moved up to the Clearwater Threshers. He had a great year, winning 5 games and not losing any.
In 2016, he split his time between Clearwater and the Reading Fightin Phils. He kept pitching well, getting many strikeouts.
Jesen started the 2017 season with the Reading Fightin Phils. He was doing so well that he was promoted to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, which is a Triple-A team. This was just one step away from the Major Leagues!
Making it to MLB
On July 28, 2017, Jesen Therrien got the exciting news: the Phillies were calling him up to the Major Leagues! He made his MLB debut the very next day against the Atlanta Braves.
He played in 15 games for the Phillies that season. Later that year, Jesen had an important arm surgery, which is common for baseball pitchers. This meant he couldn't play for the rest of 2017 and all of 2018 while he recovered. After his recovery, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.
Time with the Dodgers
On November 24, 2017, Jesen signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He spent 2018 recovering from his arm surgery and did not play any games.
In 2019, he was invited to Spring Training with the Dodgers. However, he was placed on the injured list and did not play any games for the team. He became a free agent again at the end of 2019.
Return to Baseball
After a few years away from the game, Jesen Therrien signed with the Trois-Rivières Aigles of the Frontier League on May 8, 2023. He played 10 games for the Aigles that season.
On May 1, 2024, Jesen re-signed with the Aigles for the 2024 season, continuing his baseball career.
Playing for Canada
Jesen Therrien has also represented his home country. He was chosen to be a part of the Canada national baseball team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. This is a big international tournament where countries compete in baseball.
