Jessy Wilson is an American singer from Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her powerful voice and for being a former member of the rock duo Muddy Magnolias. After the duo, Jessy started a successful solo career, releasing her own music.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Jessy Wilson was born in Brooklyn, a famous part of New York City. She attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, which is a special school for students who want to study arts like music.

Music Career Journey

Joining Muddy Magnolias

After finishing high school, Jessy began her music journey by singing backup for the famous artist Alicia Keys. She sang on Alicia's albums and joined her on tours, gaining valuable experience.

In 2013, Jessy moved to Nashville, Tennessee, a city known for its music scene. There, she met Kallie North, and together they formed the rock duo called Muddy Magnolias. They even received guidance from the well-known singer John Legend.

The band gained a lot of attention at the CMA Music Festival in 2014. Many people were impressed by Jessy's amazing voice. Some even compared her singing style to the legendary Aretha Franklin. Muddy Magnolias later signed with Third Generation Records. They released their album Broken People in 2016. However, Kallie North left the band in 2017, and the group eventually broke up.

Starting a Solo Career

After Muddy Magnolias disbanded, Jessy Wilson started creating art, similar to the style of the famous painter Pablo Picasso. This creative period helped her prepare for her next musical steps.

On January 15, 2019, Jessy released her first solo song, "Love & Sophistication." It came with a lyric video that even had French captions! This song was part of her first solo album, called Phase, which came out on May 3, 2019. The album was produced by Patrick Carney, who is the drummer for the band The Black Keys.

Jessy explained that the album title Phase was inspired by artists like Bob Dylan and Picasso. She felt like she was going through different "phases" as an artist. She said the album helps connect who she has been with who she is becoming. It was like finding the missing piece of her musical journey. The album was released through Thirty Tigers Records.

"Love & Sophistication" was the first single from her debut album. Jessy described the song as having a 1960s or 1970s R&B sound. She wanted the song to be about more than just a romantic relationship. It was also about how relationships grow and become more complex and interesting. The music video for the song was released on February 15, 2019. It showed Jessy singing in a dimly lit room, with French captions appearing on screen.
