James P. McMullan (October 13, 1936 – May 31, 2019) was an American actor. He was born in Long Island, New York. Jim McMullan was well-known for his acting roles. He played Dr. Terry McDaniel in the 1960s TV series Ben Casey. He was also known for playing Senator Andrew Dowling on the CBS show Dallas.

Before becoming an actor, Jim McMullan studied Industrial Design. He attended New York University and Parsons School of Design. In 1961, he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kansas.

Jim McMullan's Acting Career

Jim McMullan moved to Hollywood in 1961. He went to visit a friend. By chance, he met playwright William Inge. This meeting led to a screen test for a movie. The movie was Ride the High Country (1962), directed by Sam Peckinpah.

Universal Pictures saw his screen test. They offered him a seven-year acting contract. This was the start of his successful 30-year career in films and television. In 1962, McMullan appeared in the TV western The Virginian. He played Jess Kroeger in an episode called "Impasse."

TV Shows and Guest Roles

Jim McMullan starred in several TV series. He played John Moore in the short-lived CBS show Beyond Westworld. He also played Officer Don Burdick in the series Chopper One.

He appeared in many other popular TV shows. These include Alfred Hitchcock Hour and Dr. Kildare. He was also in The Time Tunnel, Hart to Hart, and Cannon. Other shows were S.W.A.T, Barnaby Jones, and The Fall Guy. He also appeared in Daniel Boone and Baywatch.

McMullan was a guest star in over 150 TV shows. Some of these include MacGyver and Doogie Howser, M.D.. He also appeared in The Six Million Dollar Man and The Rockford Files. Other guest roles were in The Young and the Restless and The A-Team. He also acted in the TV movie The Taking of Flight 847: The Uli Derickson Story (1988).

Jim McMullan also had many roles in feature films. In 1963, he played Buffalo Bill Cody in The Raiders. He was also in Shenandoah (1965). Other films include The Happiest Millionaire (1967) and Downhill Racer (1969).

Later, he appeared in Pursuit (1972) and Extreme Close-Up (1973). He was also in The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981). In 1987, he acted in Assassination. His later films include Strategic Command (1997), Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997), and Batman & Robin (1997).
