Playing Professional Football
Jimmy Wilson started his NFL journey after being picked in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was the 235th player chosen overall. His career included playing for several teams, mostly as a safety.
Miami Dolphins Career Highlights
The Miami Dolphins drafted Jimmy Wilson in the seventh round in 2011. He quickly made an impact on the team. On September 25, 2011, he got his first-ever interception against the Cleveland Browns. An interception happens when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player.
Later that year, on October 17, 2011, Wilson forced his first fumble against the New York Jets. A forced fumble is when a defensive player knocks the ball out of an offensive player's hands. He finished his first season with good stats, including an interception and a forced fumble.
In 2012, Wilson continued to play well. He forced another fumble in October. He also recorded his first sack against the New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. In the same game, he even blocked a punt, which led to a touchdown for his team! He ended the 2012 season with 35 tackles and two sacks.
Wilson had a strong 2013 season. He caught his second career interception against the Atlanta Falcons. He also forced his third fumble against the New Orleans Saints. Later, he grabbed his third interception from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished 2013 with 37 tackles and two interceptions, which was a career high for him.
His final season with the Dolphins was 2014. On September 28, 2014, he got his fourth interception against the Oakland Raiders. He also achieved a career-high 57 tackles that year.
Time with the San Diego Chargers
On March 13, 2015, Jimmy Wilson signed a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers. He continued to make big plays for his new team. On September 20, 2015, he recovered his first career fumble. This means he picked up a loose ball after an offensive player dropped it.
He also caught his fifth career interception against the Pittsburgh Steelers. On November 29, 2015, he recorded his third career sack against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wilson played for the Chargers until December 2015.
Other Teams
After leaving the Chargers, Jimmy Wilson briefly joined the Kansas City Chiefs in April 2016. However, he was released by the Chiefs in May of the same year. He then signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in July 2016 but was released by them in September 2016.
