Joel Rogosin (born October 30, 1932 – died April 21, 2020) was an American television producer, director, and writer. He worked on many popular TV shows from the 1960s to the 1990s. He was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards, which are big awards for TV shows. Two of these nominations were for his work on the show Ironside in 1970 and 1971. His third nomination was for producing Magnum, P.I. in 1983.

Joel Rogosin's Life and Career

Joel Rogosin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 30, 1932. He grew up in Boston and Virginia. He went to high school in Arlington and Falls Church. Later, Joel graduated from Stanford University in 1955.

Starting in Television

Joel Rogosin began his career in 1957 at Columbia Pictures, working as a messenger. He quickly moved up the ranks. By 1961, he became a producer for the ABC TV series 77 Sunset Strip. This show was the most watched show in the United States at that time.

During the early 1960s, Rogosin also produced other shows for Warner Bros. Television. These included Hawaiian Eye and Surfside 6.

Working on Many Shows

Throughout his career, Joel Rogosin worked on many different television programs. He was a producer, director, or writer for a variety of shows. Some of these included:

  • Kraft Suspense Theatre
  • The Virginian
  • Ironside
  • Magnum, P.I.
  • Knight Rider

He also worked on several TV movies and other series. These included The Blue Knight and the sitcom Mr. Merlin. He even helped with two Jerry Lewis Telethons, which raised money for muscular dystrophy research.

Later Life and Community Work

In his later years, Joel Rogosin and his wife, Deborah, moved to a special community. This place is called the Motion Picture & Television Fund. It is a retirement community for people who worked in the movies and TV industry. It is located in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles.

Joel was an important member of the Grey Quill Society there. This group held weekly workshops where residents could share their writings. They shared poetry, stories, and plays. Joel also helped change the name of the community's nursing facility. It is now called The Mary Pickford House. This name honors actress Mary Pickford, who helped start the Motion Picture & Television Fund in 1920.

His Passing

Joel Rogosin passed away on April 21, 2020, at the age of 87. He died from problems related to COVID-19. He was at the Motion Picture & Television Fund when he passed. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, whom he was married to for 67 years. He also had three daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
