Richard Elmer "Joey" Dorsey (born December 16, 1983) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Memphis. Joey Dorsey was known for his strong defense and rebounding skills. He played as a power forward and center.

Joey Dorsey's College Basketball Journey
Joey Dorsey played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers. During his second and third years, his team reached the NCAA tournament's "Elite Eight". This means they were among the top eight teams in the country.
In his final year, Dorsey helped lead the Memphis Tigers to the championship game of the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. He played alongside future NBA stars like Derrick Rose. Even though they played well, the Tigers lost to Kansas in overtime.
Joey Dorsey's Professional Basketball Career
Starting in the NBA: Houston Rockets
In the 2008 NBA draft, Joey Dorsey was picked 33rd overall by the Portland Trail Blazers. Soon after, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. He played a few games for the Rockets in his first season.
The Rockets also sent Dorsey to their minor league team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This team is part of the NBA Development League, where players can get more playing time. In February 2010, Dorsey had a great game, playing 19 minutes and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Moving to Sacramento and Toronto
On February 18, 2010, Dorsey was traded to the Sacramento Kings. This was part of a bigger trade involving Tracy McGrady. He played for the Kings for a short time before they released him in March 2010.
A few days later, in April 2010, Dorsey signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors.
Playing Basketball in Europe
In September 2011, Joey Dorsey moved to Europe. He signed a one-year deal with Caja Laboral, a team in Spain. He later left that team in January 2012.
The very next day, he joined Olympiacos, a Greek team. With Olympiacos, he achieved great success! He helped them win the EuroLeague championship in 2012. This is one of the biggest basketball titles in Europe. They also won the Greek League championship that same year.
In August 2012, Dorsey signed another two-year deal with Olympiacos. During a practice game in September 2012, he famously broke a backboard!
However, in November 2012, Dorsey left Olympiacos. He then signed with a Turkish team called Royal Halı Gaziantep for the rest of the season. In July 2013, he signed with another Spanish club, FC Barcelona.
Returning to the NBA
On July 19, 2014, Joey Dorsey returned to the Houston Rockets. In January 2015, he had one of his best games that season, scoring seven points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
In July 2015, the Rockets traded Dorsey to the Denver Nuggets. However, he was released by the Nuggets in August 2015.
More Time in Europe
After leaving the NBA again, Dorsey signed with Galatasaray, a Turkish team, in August 2015. He played there for a while before returning to his former team, FC Barcelona, in February 2016.
He signed a two-year contract extension with Barcelona in August 2016. But in January 2017, he left the team. In February 2017, he signed with another Turkish team, Best Balıkesir.
In November 2018, Dorsey went back to play in the Greek Basket League for Panionios B.C.. He played 20 games, averaging 9 points and 8.8 rebounds. His strong play helped Panionios avoid being moved to a lower league.
Later, in November 2019, he signed with Syntainics MBC in Germany. He left that team in July 2020. He then played for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus starting in September 2020. In September 2021, he signed with APOP Paphos B.C., also in Cyprus.
