Richard Elmer "Joey" Dorsey (born December 16, 1983) is a former American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Memphis.

Joey Dorsey's College Basketball Journey
Joey Dorsey played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers. During his second and third years, his team reached the NCAA tournament's "Elite Eight." This means they were among the top eight teams in the country.
In his final year, 2008, Dorsey helped lead the Memphis Tigers to the championship game. He played alongside famous players like Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts. They played against Kansas but lost in overtime.
Joey Dorsey's Professional Basketball Career
Starting in the NBA: Houston Rockets
In 2008, Joey Dorsey was picked 33rd in the 2008 NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. Soon after, he was traded to the Houston Rockets. He played a few games for the Rockets in his first season.
The Rockets also sent Dorsey to their minor league team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This team is part of the NBA Development League, often called the G-League today. It helps players get more experience. In 2010, he had a great game, grabbing 12 rebounds in 19 minutes.
Moving to Sacramento and Toronto
In February 2010, Dorsey was part of a big trade. He moved to the Sacramento Kings. However, he was released by the Kings a month later.
A few days after that, in April 2010, the Toronto Raptors signed him. He played for the Raptors for a short time.
Playing Basketball in Europe
After his time in the NBA, Joey Dorsey moved to Europe to play basketball.
- In 2011, he signed with a Spanish team called Caja Laboral.
- In 2012, he joined the Greek team Olympiacos. With them, he won two big championships: the EuroLeague and the Greek League.
- While playing for Olympiacos, he famously shattered a backboard during a practice game in 2012!
- Later in 2012, he moved to a Turkish team, Royal Halı Gaziantep.
- In 2013, he signed with another Spanish team, FC Barcelona.
Returning to the NBA
In 2014, Joey Dorsey returned to the Houston Rockets. He played a full season with them. In one game in 2015, he scored 7 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
In 2015, the Rockets traded Dorsey to the Denver Nuggets. However, the Nuggets released him shortly after.
Back to Europe for More Basketball
After his second time in the NBA, Dorsey went back to Europe.
- In 2015, he signed with Galatasaray, a team in Turkey.
- In 2016, he returned to FC Barcelona in Spain. He signed a two-year contract extension with them.
- In 2017, he left Barcelona and joined another Turkish team, Best Balıkesir.
- In 2018, Dorsey went back to the Greek Basket League and played for Panionios B.C.. He helped his team avoid being moved to a lower league.
- In 2019, he signed with Syntainics MBC in Germany.
- In 2020, he moved to Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.
- In 2021, he signed with APOP Paphos B.C., also in Cyprus.
Joey Dorsey's Coaching Career
After his playing career, Joey Dorsey started coaching. In August 2024, the Minnesota Timberwolves hired him. He now works as a Player Development Assistant for the team. This means he helps players improve their skills.
