John Campbell of Lundy facts for kids
John Campbell of Lundy (died 1562) was an important Scottish lawyer and a trusted helper to the royal family. He was sometimes known as John Campbell of Lundie.
John Campbell was the grandson of Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll. His family came from the lands of Lundie in Angus, a region in Scotland.
He played a big part in Scottish law and government. He was one of the first people to be part of the Scottish College of Justice, which is like Scotland's highest court. He also served as the Treasurer for King James V. This meant he was in charge of the country's money.
Working for the Royal Family
In 1546, John Campbell became the Master of Household for Mary of Guise. She was the mother of Mary, Queen of Scots. As Master of Household, he helped manage her home and staff. At this time, Mary of Guise and her young daughter lived at Stirling Castle. They also stayed at Falkland Palace in October of that year.
His Role in Law and Justice
John Campbell was also a Justice Depute in 1546. This meant he helped lead court sessions. He held a special court session, called an "ayre," in Lanark.
Later, in 1552, he traveled with Regent Arran and the Justice Clerk, John Bellenden of Auchnoule. They went to Aberdeen to hold a major court. During their time there, they were entertained by court musicians and a jester named Robertson. The cook, Robert Bennet, prepared their meals.
John Campbell of Lundy passed away in 1562.

John Campbell was married twice. His first wife was Isabel Gray. She was the daughter of Andrew, 2nd Lord Gray. His second wife was Agnes Home.
He had children, including:
