John Dimes was born on January 27, 1966. He is an American author, artist, singer, and actor. He is also an award-winning comedian. Many people know him best as the unique Dr. Sarcofiguy. This character is a "horror host," which means he introduces scary movies on TV. John Dimes is the first and only African-American horror host.
John Dimes has written several exciting books. One is a graphic novel called Tales of Home. He also wrote a mysterious thriller titled Coincidissonance. Another fun book is The White Corpse Hustle: A Guide for the Fledgeling Vampire. This book is like a funny guide for new vampires. People have said it's as clever as books by Douglas Adams. This vampire guide is the first part of a planned series of three books. Besides the drawings for his own books, John Dimes' art has been shown in galleries in Washington, D.C.
John Dimes' Start
John Dimes began his career as a stand-up comedian. He performed alongside famous comedians like David Chapelle, Patton Oswalt, and Wanda Sykes. He learned a lot from these experiences.
In 1995, John Dimes sang on the famous stage of the Apollo Theatre. This was a big moment for him. Later that same year, on Halloween 1995, his own TV show started. It was called The Spooky Movie. The show first aired on Falls Church Community TV. It is still on every Friday night. You can also watch The Spooky Movie across the country. It is shown through the Horror Host Underground Network.
Dr. Sarcofiguy on TV
Dr. Sarcofiguy became quite popular. In 2006 and 2007, he appeared on a TV show called Monster Madhouse Live. He also helped host "The Spooky Movie Film Festival" in Fairfax, Virginia. He co-hosted this festival in October of both years. His co-host was his friend and childhood hero, "Count Gore de Vol". Count Gore de Vol was a very popular horror host in the 1970s and 1980s. He was well-known in the Washington-Baltimore area. Dr. Sarcofiguy also regularly contributes to "The Count's" weekly online show.
