Later, in July 1862, he joined another group. This was the 36th Massachusetts Infantry. He started as a sergeant. A sergeant is a leader of a small group of soldiers.

Becoming a Captain

In August 1863, John Brown became a Captain. This is a higher rank in the army. He joined the 12th Kentucky Infantry. He stayed with this group until July 1865.

After his time in the army, John Brown passed away. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. This is a special place where many brave soldiers are laid to rest.
