John Logan Jenkins III (born March 6, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He recently played for the Criollos de Caguas team. John is a shooting guard. He was named Mr. Basketball in Tennessee twice. He was also the Gatorade Tennessee High School Player of the Year in 2008–09. John played college basketball at Vanderbilt. The Atlanta Hawks picked him as the 23rd player in the 2012 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Star
John Jenkins was a top player at Station Camp High School. In his senior year, he was the best scorer among high school players in the country. He scored an amazing 42.3 points per game. This was the second-highest single-season average in Tennessee history.
Experts like Rivals.com thought John was a five-star recruit. This means he was one of the best young players. They ranked him as the 6th best shooting guard in the nation. He was also the 15th best player overall in 2008.
College Career at Vanderbilt
John Jenkins was known as one of the best shooters in college. He played for Vanderbilt. In his first year, he made 48.3% of his three-point shots. He continued to shoot well in his second and third years.
As a sophomore, he led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in scoring. He averaged 19.5 points per game. He also made the most three-pointers per game. He was chosen for the Fifth Team All-America by Fox Sports.
In his junior year, John averaged 19.9 points per game. He led the SEC in scoring for the second year in a row. He also tied an SEC record by making 134 three-pointers in one season. He was the national leader in three-pointers made per game. The Associated Press named him a third-team All-American.
On April 9, 2012, John decided to leave college early. He chose to enter the 2012 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Journey
John Jenkins has played for many teams in his professional career. This includes teams in the NBA, the NBA G League, and international leagues.
Early NBA Years with the Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks picked John Jenkins in the 2012 NBA draft. He signed his first contract with them in July 2012. He also played for their G League team, the Bakersfield Jam. In 2014, he had back surgery and missed part of the season.
Moving to Other NBA Teams
In 2015, John signed with the Dallas Mavericks. He played well in his second game, scoring 17 points. He was later waived by the Mavericks in February 2016.
The Phoenix Suns then claimed him. He played for the Suns for a short time. He averaged 5.0 points and 1.2 assists per game in his first season with them.
G League and International Play
After his time with the Suns, John joined the Westchester Knicks in the NBA Development League (now G League). He also played overseas for San Pablo Burgos in Spain. This was his first time playing professionally in Europe.
He returned to the Westchester Knicks in 2018. He also had short stints with the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks in 2019.
In 2020, John played for the Jiangsu Dragons in China. He then moved to Hapoel Eilat in Israel. Later that year, he signed with Bilbao Basket in Spain. He averaged 12.6 points per game there.
He continued his international career with BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque in France from 2021 to 2022.
Recent Teams
From 2022 to 2023, John played for the NBA G League Ignite. He returned to Spain in March 2023 to play for Bàsquet Girona. In August 2023, he rejoined the NBA G League Ignite for a second time. Most recently, in May 2024, John signed with the Criollos de Caguas in Puerto Rico.

John Jenkins is the son of John Jenkins Jr. and Melodye Jenkins. He has a sister named Adrianne. He studied Interdisciplinary Studies in college, focusing on Religious Studies. John and his wife have a daughter.
