John Kaye (born October 23, 1955 – died May 2, 2016) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. This is like a state parliament in Australia. He was part of the Greens political party.
John Kaye cared a lot about renewable energy and saving energy. He also strongly believed in free, good quality public education for everyone. He spoke up for public schools and TAFE colleges.

John Kaye's Early Life and Studies
John Kaye was born in Melbourne, Australia. He studied engineering at the University of Melbourne. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering and a Masters in Engineering Science.
Later, he worked as an engineer. He helped with electricity for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. John then went to the University of California, Berkeley in the USA. There, he earned his PhD degree.
After his studies, John Kaye became a researcher. He worked at the Australian National University. He then became a teacher at the University of New South Wales. He taught electrical engineering. He focused on sustainable energy and greenhouse issues.
John Kaye's Political Journey
John Kaye joined the Greens Party in 1997. He was very interested in how cities are planned. He also believed in listening to what communities wanted.
From 1998 to 2001, John helped create the Greens' policies. He also advised a Greens politician named Lee Rhiannon. He worked on campaigns for public education and sustainable transport. He also focused on protecting the environment.
In the 2003 state election, he helped manage the Greens' campaign. He also coordinated their policies. In the 2004 federal election, he ran for the Australian Senate. He did not win a seat, but the Greens' support grew.
