Sir John Spencer (born around 1551, died 9 January 1599) was an important English nobleman. He was also a politician, a large landowner, and a knight. He served as a MP, which means he helped make laws for the country. Sir John was part of the famous Spencer family.

Sir John Spencer's Life
Early Life and Education
Sir John Spencer was the son of Sir John Spencer (died 1586). His mother was Katherine Kitson. He grew up at Althorp in Northamptonshire, England.
He went to Trinity College, Cambridge for his education. After that, he studied law at the Middle Temple. This was a place where people learned to become lawyers.
When his father passed away in 1586, John Spencer took over the family lands. These lands included estates in Wormleighton and Althorp. In 1588, he was made a knight.
Public Service and Politics
Sir John Spencer held several important jobs in his community. In 1577, he became a Justice of the Peace for Bedfordshire. This role was like a local official or judge. He also served as a Justice of the Peace for Northamptonshire starting in 1584.
He was chosen to be the Sheriff of Northamptonshire twice. He served from 1578 to 1579 and again from 1590 to 1591. The Sheriff was a very important local official. They were in charge of law enforcement and managing elections.
In 1572, Sir John was elected as a Member of Parliament for Northampton. This meant he represented his area in the English Parliament. He helped make decisions and laws for the country.
Death and Burial
Sir John Spencer passed away on 9 January 1599. He was buried in St Mary the Virgin Church, Great Brington. This church is the local church for Althorp.
A special monument was made for him by Joseph Hollemans. Joseph Hollemans was a sculptor from the Netherlands.
Family Life
Marriage and Children
Sir John Spencer married Mary Catlyn. She was the only daughter of Sir Robert Catlin. Mary brought more land to the Spencer family. These lands were in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Sir John and Mary had one son together. Their son was named Robert. Robert later became the first Baron Spencer of Wormleighton.
