Johnnie Fingers was famous for his unique stage look. He often wore striped pyjamas while performing. People also loved his beautiful and melodic piano playing style. For many years, he was not officially credited for helping write the band's 1979 hit song, "I Don't Like Mondays". However, after a legal case in 2019, he finally received credit and a payment for his work on the song.

Early Life and Family

Johnnie Fingers grew up in a large family of creative people. Many of his relatives were actors, artists, and musicians. His cousin, Pete Briquette, was also a member of The Boomtown Rats. Their mothers were sisters, making them cousins. Johnnie's uncles included Michael Bowles, a famous Irish conductor and composer.

Johnnie started learning to play the piano when he was very young. He often joked that his piano teacher "stole his youth" because of all the practice.

Music Career

The Boomtown Rats band broke up in 1986. After that, Johnnie Fingers started a new band called Gung~Ho in 1987. He formed it with Simon Crowe, another former Boomtown Rats member, and Yoko Kurokawa.

Johnnie Fingers did not rejoin The Boomtown Rats when they got back together in 2013. This was because he lives in Tokyo, Japan. He is married and has two children.

Working in Japan

Today, Johnnie Fingers lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. He is still very active in the music industry there. He works as a record producer, helping other artists create their music. He is also a songwriter, creating new songs for Japanese stars like UA.
