The Boomtown Rats and His Stage Name
Pete Briquette was born in Ballyjamesduff, a town in County Cavan, Ireland. His father was a lawyer there. Pete's stage name, "Briquette," comes from his childhood in Ireland. Back then, people often burned peat briquettes to keep their homes warm, instead of coal.
Pete is the main bass guitarist for The Boomtown Rats. He also sings backing vocals and sometimes plays the keyboard. He helped write some of the band's songs too. The Boomtown Rats became very popular around the world in the late 1970s.
You can hear Pete's bass playing on many famous Boomtown Rats songs. These include "Rat Trap", "Banana Republic", and "Like Clockwork". He even helped write "Banana Republic" and "Like Clockwork" with Bob Geldof. Pete was the only member of The Boomtown Rats who often worked with Bob Geldof on his solo music. He played on some of Bob's biggest hits, like "Great Song of Indifference" and "Love or Something".
Working as a Record Producer
Besides playing music, Pete Briquette is also a record producer. This means he helps other musicians record their songs and albums. He worked with the French singer Renaud on his 2009 album. The album was called Molly Malone – Balade Irlandaise and featured Irish folk songs.
Other famous musicians like Terry Woods from The Pogues and Barney McKenna from The Dubliners also played on this album. Even though some people didn't like Renaud's singing on it, the album was a big success. It reached number one on the music charts in France.
Life Outside the Band

Pete also has an older sister, Annette Andrews. She is married to David Andrews, who used to be a government minister in Ireland. Today, Pete lives in Acton, London, England.
