Johnson is a small place in Whitman County, Washington. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settled area that isn't officially part of a city or town. Instead, it's governed by the county.
History
The community of Johnson got its start a long time ago. In 1888, a special building called a post office was opened there. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, finally closing its doors in 1956.
Johnson was named after a person named Jonathan Johnson. He was the first owner of the land where the community was built. His name lives on through this small, historic place.
