Jon Christopher Duplantier (born July 11, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher. He currently plays for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. Jon was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2016 baseball draft. He made his big league debut in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Diamondbacks in 2019.

Jon Duplantier's Baseball Journey

Starting Out: Amateur Baseball Years

Jon Duplantier grew up in Katy, Texas, and went to Seven Lakes High School. After high school, he played college baseball for the Rice Owls team at Rice University. In 2015, he couldn't play because of a shoulder injury. But he came back strong in 2016! He was even named the best pitcher in his college league, Conference USA.

Playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks chose Jon in the third round of the 2016 baseball draft. This was a big step for him! He started his professional career in June 2016 with the Hillsboro Hops. In his very first game, he struck out three batters in a row.

In 2017, Jon played for two different teams, the Kane County Cougars and the Visalia Rawhide. He had an amazing year, winning 12 games and only losing 3. His pitching was so good that he was chosen to play in the 2017 All-Star Futures Game. This game features some of the best young players in baseball. He was even named "Pipeline Pitcher of the Year" by MLB Pipeline, which is a big honor!

Jon continued to play well in 2018 for the Jackson Generals. He won 5 games and had a low "ERA" (Earned Run Average), which means he didn't let many opposing players score runs.

On April 1, 2019, Jon got his first call-up to the major leagues! He pitched three innings without letting any runs score and even helped his team win. He played in 15 games that season. In 2020, he didn't play in any games for the Diamondbacks or in the minor leagues because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Jon started the season with the Triple-A Reno Aces. He faced some challenges with his pitching. He also had a muscle injury in his back, called a lat strain, which ended his season early. The Diamondbacks later re-signed him to a minor league contract.

Moving to Other Teams

After leaving the Diamondbacks, Jon signed with the San Francisco Giants in December 2021. A few days later, the Los Angeles Dodgers picked him from the Giants in a special draft for minor league players called the Rule 5 draft. He played for the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers in 2022, winning 5 games.

In 2023, Jon signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He played in three games for their Triple-A team, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, before being released in June.

In early 2024, Jon joined the New York Mets organization. He pitched in 16 games for their Triple-A team, the Syracuse Mets, before being released in June.

Later in 2024, Jon played for the Lake Country DockHounds, an independent baseball team. He pitched very well, not allowing any earned runs in four starts.

Jon then returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a second time in August 2024. He played for their Double-A and Triple-A teams. In his last game of the season, he had an amazing performance, striking out 12 batters and not allowing anyone to reach base in six innings!

Playing in Japan: Hanshin Tigers

In November 2024, Jon signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. However, he was released soon after and then signed with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan. He is now a pitcher for this team in Nippon Professional Baseball.
