Yehonatan Ya'akov "Jonathan" Mergui (Hebrew: יהונתן יעקב מרגי), known as Mergui, is a talented Israeli singer, actor, and dancer. He became famous after appearing on the fifth season of the Israeli TV show Rising Star. He finished in second place in this popular competition.
About Mergui
Mergui was born on February 10, 2000, in Tel Aviv, Israel. He grew up in an Israeli family with roots from both Sephardi Jewish and Mizrahi Jewish backgrounds. This includes heritage from Morocco and Tunisia.
From 2018 to 2021, he was in a relationship with Israeli singer and actress Noa Kirel. In December 2023, he started a relationship with Israeli singer and actress Anna Zak.
Mergui's Career Journey
Mergui's journey to fame began on the TV show Rising Star. He appeared on the show from 2017 to 2018. During the "screen level" part of the show, Mergui sang "How Far I'll Go" from the movie Moana. His performance was a big hit, earning him 88% approval.
In February 2018, he made it to the grand final of the series. He competed against other talented singers like Chen Aharoni, Netta Barzilai, and Riki Ben Ari. At the final event, Mergui scored 205 points. He came in second place, just behind Netta Barzilai, who won with 250 points.
On September 15, 2019, Mergui released his first music collection, called an EP. It was titled Ma Iyea and was produced by Johnny Goldstein. This EP included popular songs like "Asur" and "Hakol Shakuff."
