Netta Barzilai (Hebrew: נטע ברזילי), known simply as Netta, is a famous singer from Israel. She was born on January 22, 1993. Netta became very well-known after winning the fifth season of a TV show called HaKokhav HaBa. This win gave her the chance to represent her country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

On May 12, 2018, Netta won the Eurovision contest in Lisbon, Portugal. Her winning song was called "Toy". This was a big moment for Israel, as it was their fourth time winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

Netta Barzilai grew up in Hod HaSharon, Israel. Her parents were both born in Israel. Her family has roots from different Jewish communities, including those from Morocco, Libya, and Poland. Netta has two brothers. When she was a child, she lived in Nigeria for six years because her father, who is an engineer, worked there.

Netta went to Hadarim High School in Hod HaSharon. Before joining the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), she spent a year volunteering in youth programs. She completed her required military service in the Israeli Navy Band, where she performed music. After her service, she studied electronic music at the Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music.

Becoming a Star: Eurovision

In September 2017, Netta tried out for the fifth season of HaKokhav HaBa. This TV show helps Israel choose its singer for the Eurovision Song Contest. She sang "Rude Boy" by Rihanna and got 82% of the votes. This helped her move forward in the competition.

Later, she sang "Hey Mama" by David Guetta. In February 2018, she performed "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. Even though she lost a round, the judges chose her to continue.

The last song Netta performed in the show was a mix of "Gangnam Style" by Psy and "Tik Tok" by Kesha. She received 210 points from the judges and audience. This made her the winner and gave her the chance to represent Israel at Eurovision.

On February 25, 2018, it was announced that Netta's song for Eurovision would be "Toy". The song was mostly in English, with a few words in Hebrew. It was written by Doron Medalie and Stav Beger.

The song "Toy" was released on March 11, 2018. Its music video quickly became very popular, getting over 20 million views before Eurovision even started. Netta performed "Toy" at a big Eurovision event in Amsterdam in April 2018. She also sang at Israel's 70th Independence Day celebration.

On May 8, 2018, Netta competed in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. She won her semi-final with 283 points, which meant she qualified for the final. In the final on May 12, she won the competition with a total of 529 points. This was Israel's fourth victory at Eurovision.

After Eurovision

After winning Eurovision, Netta signed a record deal with S-Curve Records. On February 1, 2019, she released her next song, "Bassa Sababa". The music video for this song was filmed in Kyiv.

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Netta opened the first semi-final with a new version of "Toy". During the grand final, she sang a new song called "Nana Banana".

Netta started performing all over the world. She appeared at Pride parades in Europe and on TV shows in the United States. In October 2019, she performed at a festival in China for about 500 million TV viewers.

In 2019, Netta performed in a show called "Pop Up Music 2" with other Israeli artists. They released a song together called "We Got The Power". She also released a duet with Omer Adam called "Beg".

On February 7, 2020, Netta released a new song, "Ricki Lake". She also started a YouTube series called Netta's Office. In these videos, she remixes songs using a special device called a looper.

On May 16, 2020, she performed a new song, "Cuckoo", during a special Eurovision event. Her first album, called Goody Bag, was released on June 25, 2020. It included her popular songs like "Toy" and "Bassa Sababa". She also made a small appearance in the Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

In 2021, Netta released new solo songs like "CEO" and "Dum". In 2022, she released "I Love My Nails" and "Playground Politica" with Nigerian singer Mr Eazi.

In 2024, Netta took part in the 10th season of Israel's Dancing with the Stars (called Rokdim Im Kokhavim). She was eliminated in the first round of the live shows. In May 2024, she performed at a rally in Tel Aviv. This rally asked for the release of hostages during the Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis.
