Early Life and School
Mr Eazi was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He is from the Yoruba group. His family was very business-minded. His mother had a small business, and his father was a pilot who started his own aviation company.
When he was in primary school in Lagos, Mr Eazi sang in the school choir for a short time. He grew up listening to the music his dad played during breakfast. At age 16, Mr Eazi moved to Ghana to continue his education. He studied mechanical engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Starting in Music
Mr Eazi began recording music while at KNUST. He sang on the song "My Life," which became a hit on campus. Before that, he started a company called Swagger Entertainment. This company helped him book shows and promote events at KNUST.
When he was 23, he went back to Nigeria. He started an online shopping business. He also worked for a company called Schlumberger for a short time. Mr Eazi also tried other businesses, like importing soft drinks, gold mining, and distributing food. He said he started about six different businesses. In 2014, he stopped being a club promoter after an artist did not show up for a big party he planned.
On June 7, 2022, Mr Eazi graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, USA. On July 19, 2023, he announced his first solo album, The Evil Genius, which was released on October 27, 2023.
Music Career Highlights
First Mixtape and Early Songs
Mr Eazi released his first mixtape, About to Blow, in July 2013. It had 13 songs and included two singles: "Pipi Dance" and "Bankulize." He recorded the mixtape in just one week with producer Klu. The Fader magazine described it as a "dancehall-leaning SoundCloud playlist."
In 2014, Mr Eazi moved back to Nigeria. He connected with UK-based Ghanaian producer Juls. They worked together on "Bankulize," which featured Ghanaian artist Pappy Kojo. The song came out in November 2014. A remix of "Bankulize" with Burna Boy was released in September 2016.
In August 2015, Mr Eazi released "Skin Tight," a dancehall-inspired song. It featured singer Efya and was produced by DJ Juls. Mr Eazi said the song was a "fusion" of Ghanaian pidgin and Nigerian melodies. "Skin Tight" was later used in an advertisement for the vodka brand Ciroc in April 2017.
Mr Eazi was also featured on Eugy's popular song "Dance for Me" in 2016. The Guardian newspaper listed it as one of the top 10 African songs of that year. On June 17, 2016, Mr Eazi released "Anointing," an R&B song with rapper Sarkodie.
Accra to Lagos Mixtape
In February 2016, Mr Eazi was not nominated for any Ghanaian-only awards at the Vodafone-sponsored Ghana Music Awards. Organizers said he was not eligible because of his nationality.
On January 11, 2017, Mr Eazi tweeted that Ghanaian music had a big influence on Nigerian music. This caused a lot of discussion in both Ghana and Nigeria. He apologized the next day.
After a performance in 2016, Wizkid announced that Mr Eazi had joined his Starboy Entertainment company. However, Mr Eazi later clarified that he was not officially signed but was working with them on business projects.
Mr Eazi's second mixtape, Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra To Lagos, was released on February 10, 2017. It reached number 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart. The mixtape had 14 songs and featured artists like Tekno, Olamide, Phyno, and DJ Cuppy. Mr Eazi said the mixtape was a tribute to the two cities that shaped his music.
The main song from the mixtape, "Leg Over," came out on December 2, 2016. The music video for "Leg Over" included appearances from comedian Eddie Kadi and Wizkid. Mr Eazi said the song was about feeling used in a relationship. "Leg Over" inspired many dance videos when it was released.
Coachella and emPawa Africa
In January 2019, it was announced that Mr Eazi would perform at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This is a very big music festival.

Mr Eazi is known for creating Banku music. This style has "bouncy rhythms and calm singing in Ghanaian Pidgin English." His music is mostly Afrobeats, which is a modern West African pop style. It mixes global pop, Dancehall, highlife, and hip-hop. Some people say Mr Eazi's music has an R&B feel, like artists such as Beres Hammond. His deep voice adds a ballad-like quality to his dance-friendly songs.
