Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu (born December 17, 1992) is a famous Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer. He is best known by his stage name, Tekno. You might have heard his song "Enjoy" because it was the closing song in an episode of the popular TV show Ted Lasso!

About Tekno's Early Life

Tekno, whose full name is Augustine Miles Kelechi Okechukwu, comes from the Ivo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He was born in Bauchi State into a family with five boys and one girl. Because his father was in the Nigerian Army, Tekno moved around a lot as a child. He lived in different parts of Nigeria, including Nasarawa State, Kaduna, and Abuja.

When he was just 8 years old, Tekno started attending a music school. There, he learned to play the piano and guitar very well. His younger brother, Spotless, is also a musician in Nigeria.

Tekno's Music Career

Tekno's journey in music began when he signed with K-Money Entertainment. His first big song, "Holiday," was released with this label. The song featured vocals from the famous artist Davido and quickly became popular, getting a lot of airplay.

Breaking into the Music Scene

In 2012, a well-known Nigerian comedian named Julius Agwu saw Tekno perform at an event in Abuja. Tekno had remixed Ice Prince's song "Oleku" into his own version called "Onye Ne Kwu," and the audience loved it! At this event, he also met Iyanya and Ubi Franklin, who managed Made Men Music Group. They all became friends. Iyanya and Ubi Franklin encouraged Tekno to move to Lagos to help his music career grow even more.

On October 5, 2013, Tekno signed a recording contract with Made Men Music Group (MMMG). Under this label, he released popular songs like "Dance" and "Anything." These songs even earned him a nomination for "Best New Act of the Year" at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Hit Songs and International Recognition

On June 18, 2015, Tekno released his huge hit song "Duro," which was produced by DJ Coublon. "Duro" was a massive success in Africa and the United States. A remix of the song, featuring Phyno and Flavour N'abania, came out on November 16, 2015. This remix topped many music charts in Nigeria. It also reached number 5 on Capital XTRA's Afrobeats Chart in September 2015.

Later that year, on November 20, 2015, Tekno released another single called "Wash." The music video for "Wash" was directed by AJE Filmworks. In December 2016, Billboard magazine named Tekno one of the top ten hip-hop and R&B artists to watch in the United States for 2017. Tekno, sometimes called the "Pana master," has also changed his stage name to Big Tek.

Collaborations and Global Reach

In 2016, the legendary musician Elton John played Tekno's song "Diana" on his "Rocket Hour" radio show on Apple Music. This showed how Tekno's music was reaching a global audience.

On October 13, 2017, Tekno was featured on DJ Cuppy's first official single, "Green Light." Later that year, on December 12, 2017, Canadian rapper Drake posted pictures of himself with Tekno on Instagram, calling it "Tekkk time."

In June 2018, Tekno signed a deal with Universal Music Group Nigeria (UMGN) and Island Records in the UK. In July 2019, Tekno was featured on Beyoncé's The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack on the song "Don't Jealous Me."
