Early Life and School
Lola Rae was born in Obalende, a part of Lagos, Nigeria. Her father is British, and her mother is Ghanaian. She went to primary school at St. Saviour's School in Ikoyi. For secondary school, she attended Lekki British International High School in Lagos.
When she was 15, Lola Rae moved to England. There, she went to university at Central Saint Martins. She studied fashion textiles at the university.
Music Career
Lola Rae started her journey in entertainment as a dancer. In 2010, she joined a dance group called "Mystikal". This group tried out for a TV show called Britain's Got Talent. Lola Rae also sang during the competition. The famous judge, Simon Cowell, noticed the Mystikal Dancing group in the semi-finals.
After the competition, the group signed a contract with a company called Syco for one year. Lola Rae later decided to focus on singing by herself. She even turned down an offer to join another TV show, The X Factor, to start her solo music career.
First Songs and Recognition
On November 19, 2012, Lola Rae released her first big song, "Watch My Ting Go". She also released another song called "High". Her talent was quickly noticed. She was nominated for "Most Promising Female Act to Watch" at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
The music video for "Watch My Ting Go" was shown on Soundcity TV in January 2013. Other artists like Iyanya and Emma Nyra appeared in the video. This video was also nominated for an award at the 10th Channel O Music Video Awards.
After "Watch My Ting Go", Lola Rae worked with Iyanya on a song called "Fi Mi Le". This song also earned her another nomination at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. She also appeared in the music video for Ice Prince's song "More", playing his love interest.
Personal Life
In May 2018, Lola Rae became a mother. She gave birth to a daughter.
