Rachel Akosua Funmilola Garton (born January 20, 1991), known as Lola Rae, is a talented singer, songwriter, and dancer. She was born in Nigeria but also has British and Ghanaian roots. Lola Rae became famous after releasing her first song, "Watch My Ting Go." This song was very popular and even got her nominated for a special award in 2013.
Early Life and School
Lola Rae was born in Obalende, a part of Lagos, Nigeria. Her father is British, and her mother is Ghanaian. She went to primary and secondary school in Lagos. When she was 15, she moved to England to go to university. There, she studied fashion textiles at Central Saint Martins.
Music Journey
Lola Rae's journey in entertainment began in 2010 as a dancer. She joined a dance group called "Mystikal." This group tried out for Britain's Got Talent, a famous TV show. Lola Rae also sang during the competition. The judge, Simon Cowell, even praised the Mystikal Dancing group in the semi-finals. After the show, the group signed a one-year contract with Syco. Lola Rae later decided to focus on singing by herself and turned down an offer to join The X Factor.
On November 19, 2012, Lola Rae released her first big song, "Watch My Ting Go." She also released another song called "High." Her song "Watch My Ting Go" was so good that its music video was shown on Soundcity TV in January 2013. Famous artists like Iyanya and Emma Nyra even appeared in the video. The video was also nominated for an award at the 10th Channel O Music Video Awards.
After "Watch My Ting Go," Lola Rae worked with Iyanya on a song called "Fi Mi Le." This song also earned her another award nomination in 2014. She also appeared in the music video for Ice Prince's song "More."

In May 2018, Lola Rae became a mother and welcomed her daughter.
