Jonathan James Owens (born July 22, 1995) is an American professional football player. He plays as a safety for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the Bears, he played for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, and Green Bay Packers. Jonathan Owens is married to the famous American artistic gymnast Simone Biles.

Early Life and High School Football

Jonathan Owens grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to Loyola Academy of St. Louis for middle school. Later, he played high school football at Christian Brothers College High School (CBC). His coach there was Scott Pingel. During his time at CBC, Owens was named the CBC Linebacker of the Year.

College Football Career

After high school, Owens went to Missouri Western State University (MWSU). He played as a defensive back for the Missouri Western Griffons. In his last year, 2017, he was named MWSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year. He also earned second-team honors in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). Owens was recognized for his good grades, being on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll throughout college. He studied pre-physical therapy because he wanted to become a doctor.

Starting with the Arizona Cardinals (2018–2019)

After the 2018 NFL draft, Jonathan Owens was not chosen by any team. However, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. He faced an injury during his first year and spent the entire 2018 season recovering. The Cardinals later released him in August 2019.

Time with the Houston Texans (2019–2022)

In September 2019, Owens joined the Houston Texans' practice squad. He moved between the practice squad and the main team roster. In December 2020, he officially joined the active roster.

A big moment for Owens came on December 26, 2021. He made his first career interception and recovered his first fumble in a game where the Texans beat the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, he suffered a dislocated wrist in January 2022 and was placed on injured reserve.

Playing for the Green Bay Packers (2023)

On May 12, 2023, Owens signed with the Green Bay Packers. He scored his first career touchdown on Thanksgiving Day against the Detroit Lions. He recovered a fumble and ran 27 yards for the score, helping the Packers win 29–22.

On March 13, 2024, Jonathan Owens signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. In his first game with the Bears, he scored the team's first touchdown of the season. This happened when he returned a blocked punt for a score in a 24–17 win against the Tennessee Titans. In Week 14, he got his second career interception, catching a pass from Brandon Allen of the San Francisco 49ers.

Personal Life and Family

Jonathan Owens and famous gymnast Simone Biles announced they were engaged on February 15, 2022. They got married on April 22, 2023.

In December 2023, Owens was part of an interview on The Pivot Podcast. Some of his comments about his relationship with Simone Biles caused a lot of discussion online. People on social media shared many opinions about what he said.

After a few days, Simone Biles posted a tweet asking if people were "done yet." This led to even more comments about Jonathan Owens. Months later, in April 2024, Simone Biles spoke about the situation on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She said that at first, she thought the comments were funny, but then they started to hurt her feelings. She explained that she wondered why people were talking about her husband in a negative way when they didn't know him.

Owens was given time off from the Chicago Bears training camp to go to Paris and watch Simone Biles compete in the 2024 Summer Olympics.
