Jonathan James Owens (born July 22, 1995) is an American professional football player. He plays as a safety for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the Bears, he played for the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers. He also played college football at Missouri Western. Jonathan is married to the famous American artistic gymnast Simone Biles.

Early Life and High School Football

Jonathan Owens grew up playing football. He attended Loyola Academy of St. Louis for middle school. Later, he went to Christian Brothers College High School (CBC). At CBC, he played high school football under coach Scott Pingel. During his time there, he was recognized as the CBC Linebacker of the Year.

College Football Career

After high school, Jonathan went to Missouri Western State University (MWSU). He played as a defensive back for their football team. His first year, 2013, was a redshirt year. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to train and get stronger.

In his final season in 2017, Jonathan was named MWSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year. He also earned second-team honors in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). He was always on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. This shows he did well in his studies while playing football. Jonathan studied pre-physical therapy. He hoped to become a doctor one day.

Jonathan Owens' NFL Journey

Jonathan Owens began his professional football career in 2018. He joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the main NFL Draft. Instead, he signed with a team after the draft.

Starting with the Arizona Cardinals (2018-2019)

Jonathan signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. Unfortunately, he got injured before the season started. Because of his injury, he spent the entire 2018 season on the injured reserve list. This meant he couldn't play. In August 2019, the Cardinals decided to let him go.

Playing for the Houston Texans (2019-2022)

In September 2019, Jonathan joined the Houston Texans. He started on their practice squad. Players on the practice squad train with the team but don't usually play in games. Over time, he moved between the practice squad and the main team.

In December 2021, Jonathan had some big moments. He made his first career interception. This is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player. He also recovered his first fumble. This happened in a game where the Texans won against the Los Angeles Chargers. Soon after, he got a wrist injury and was placed on injured reserve again.

Time with the Green Bay Packers (2023)

Jonathan signed with the Green Bay Packers in May 2023. He had a memorable moment on Thanksgiving Day. He scored his first career touchdown! This happened when he recovered a fumble and ran it 27 yards into the end zone. The Packers won that game 29–22.

Joining the Chicago Bears (2024-Present)

In March 2024, Jonathan signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. He made an immediate impact in his first game with the Bears. He scored the team's first touchdown of the season. This happened when he returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. The Bears won that game 24–17.
