How Jones Creek Got Its Name

The village of Jones Creek is named after Randal Jones. He was an important military leader for the early settlers in the lower Brazos River area. On June 22, 1824, Jones led a group of colonists in a conflict with some Karankawa Indians. This event happened near a small stream in the lower Brazos region.

After this event, the creek near the San Bernard River became known as "Jones Creek." The conflict itself is remembered as the Battle of Jones Creek. Soon after, the entire area around this creek also became known as Jones Creek.
