Joo Won (Hangul: 주원; born Moon Joon-won on September 30, 1987) is a famous South Korean actor. He is also a talented singer. Joo Won is well-known for his roles in popular TV shows. These include Bread, Love and Dreams (2010) and Ojakgyo Family (2011–2012). He also starred in Bridal Mask (2012), Good Doctor (2013), Yong-pal (2015), and Alice (2020).

Early Life and Schooling
Joo Won was born in Seoul, South Korea. He went to Kaywon High School of Arts. After high school, he studied Theatre and Arts at Sungkyunkwan University. In 2013, he decided to continue his studies. He went to Konkuk University to learn even more.
Joo Won's Acting Journey
Starting Out (2006–2009)
When Joo Won went to college, his father gave him his stage name, Joo Won. This name sounds like "God-willing" in Korean. Joo Won loved to sing. He joined a TV group called Frees for a children's show. He later started acting in musicals. His first musical was Altar Boyz. He also appeared in Singles, Grease, and Sinsangnam.
His most important musical role was in Spring Awakening. He was originally a backup actor. But he got to play the main role, Melchior, when the original actor left. His performance in this musical helped him get noticed by a big acting agency.
Becoming Popular (2010–2012)
Joo Won first appeared on TV in 2010. He played a bad guy in the drama King of Baking, Kim Takgu. This show was very popular. It had over 50% viewership, making it a "national drama." This made Joo Won famous.
In 2011, he starred in the family drama Ojakgyo Family. He won an award for Best New Actor for this role. The same year, he acted in his first movie, S.I.U..
His third TV show, Bridal Mask, made him even more popular. He played a police officer who secretly fought for Korean independence. For this role, he won two awards in 2012. He also starred in the horror movie Don't Click. He joined the fun variety show 2 Days & 1 Night too.
Big Success (2013–2017)
In 2013, Joo Won starred in the drama 7th Grade Civil Servant. It was based on an action-romance movie. Later that year, he took on a very challenging role. He played a genius pediatric surgeon with autism in the medical drama Good Doctor. This role was highly praised.
After four years, Joo Won returned to musical theater. He starred in the Korean version of Ghost the Musical. He left 2 Days & 1 Night to focus on his acting. In late 2013, he also starred in the romantic comedy movie Steal My Heart.
In 2014, Joo Won appeared in the movie Fashion King. He also returned to TV in Naeil's Cantabile. This show was a Korean version of a famous Japanese drama.
In 2015, he starred in the action thriller Yong-pal. This drama was very successful. Joo Won won a major award for his role. He also starred in the thriller movie Fatal Intuition. This movie was a box office hit.
Joo Won received an award in China in 2015 for being a "Most Welcomed Actor." He then acted in a Chinese romantic drama called Sweet Sixteen. His last project before his military service was My Sassy Girl. This historical drama aired in 2017.
After Military Service (2019–Present)
In 2020, Joo Won returned to TV. He starred in the science fiction romance drama Alice. In 2022, he played the main role in the Netflix movie Carter. In November 2022, Joo Won joined a new acting agency, Ghost Studio.
Personal Life
Military Service
In South Korea, all young men must serve in the military. Joo Won started his mandatory military service on May 16, 2017. After six weeks of basic training, he became an assistant instructor. He helped train new soldiers.
During his service, Joo Won hosted events. He was the master of ceremonies for the Armed Forces Festival in 2017. He also took part in the Memorial Day ceremony in 2018. Joo Won finished his 21 months of military service on February 5, 2019.
