Joo Won (born Moon Joon-won on September 30, 1987) is a famous South Korean actor. He is well-known for his roles in many popular TV shows. Some of his most famous series include Bread, Love and Dreams (2010), Ojakgyo Family (2011–2012), Bridal Mask (2012), Good Doctor (2013), Yong-pal (2015), and Alice (2020).

Early Life and Education
Joo Won was born in Seoul, South Korea. He attended Kaywon High School of Arts. After high school, he studied Theatre and Arts at Sungkyunkwan University. Later, in 2013, he continued his studies at Konkuk University.
Career Journey
Starting Out (2006–2009)
When Joo Won went to college, his father gave him the stage name Joo Won. This name sounds like "God-willing" in Korean.
Because he loved singing, Joo Won joined a TV group called Frees. This group was part of a children's TV show by SBS. The show started in 2006, but Joo Won soon left. He then tried out for the musical Altar Boyz. This was his first musical role. He later performed in other musicals like Singles, Grease, Sinsangnam, and Spring Awakening.
In Spring Awakening, Joo Won was originally a backup actor. But the main actor left, so Joo Won got to perform. His performance in Spring Awakening caught the eye of Sim Entertainment, which became his future agency.
Becoming Popular (2010–2012)
Joo Won first appeared in the 2010 TV drama Bread, Love and Dreams. He played the main character's rival. This show was very popular, with over 50% of viewers watching it. This made Joo Won famous.
In 2011, he starred in the family drama Ojakgyo Family. He won the Best New Actor award for this role. The same year, Joo Won made his first movie, an action crime film called S.I.U..
His third TV show, Bridal Mask, made him even more popular. In this show, he played a police officer by day and a masked hero fighting for Korean independence by night. For his role, he won an Excellence award and a Popularity award. In 2012, he also starred in the horror movie Don't Click. He also joined the fun variety show 2 Days & 1 Night.
Big Success (2013–2017)
In 2013, Joo Won starred in the drama 7th Grade Civil Servant. It was based on an action-romance movie. That same year, Joo Won took on a very challenging role. He played a genius doctor with autism in the medical drama Good Doctor. Autism is a condition that affects how a person communicates and interacts with others.
After four years, Joo Won returned to the musical stage in Ghost the Musical. He left 2 Days & 1 Night to focus on his acting. In late 2013, he starred in the romantic comedy film Steal My Heart.
In 2014, Joo Won starred in Fashion King, a movie based on a popular online comic. He also returned to TV in Naeil's Cantabile, a Korean version of a Japanese drama.
In 2015, Joo Won starred in the action thriller Yong-pal. This drama had very high ratings, and Joo Won won a Grand Prize for his acting. He also starred in the thriller movie Fatal Intuition, which was a box office hit.
In November 2015, Joo Won received the "Most Welcomed Actor" award in China. He then starred in a Chinese romantic drama film called Sweet Sixteen.
His last project before joining the military was My Sassy Girl. This TV series, a historical remake of a famous 2001 movie, premiered in 2017.
After Military Service (2019–Present)
In 2020, Joo Won returned to TV in the science fiction romance drama Alice. In 2022, he starred in the Netflix movie Carter, playing the main character. In November 2022, Joo Won joined a new agency, Ghost Studio.
Personal Life
Military Service
Joo Won began his mandatory military service on May 16, 2017. In South Korea, most young men must serve in the military. In June 2017, he finished his basic training and became an assistant instructor.
During his service, Joo Won hosted the Armed Forces Festival in 2017. He also took part in the Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony in 2018.
Joo Won completed his 21 months of military service and was discharged on February 5, 2019.
