Jordan Reaves' Pro Football Career
Starting with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Jordan began his professional football journey with his hometown team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He signed with them on April 9, 2015, after showing off his skills at tryouts. During the pre-season games, he played as a wide receiver and even caught one pass for six yards. However, he was released from the team before the regular season started on June 20, 2016.
Time with the Saskatchewan Roughriders
After not playing in the 2015 CFL season, Jordan signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on January 29, 2016. Even though he was listed as a defensive back, he trained as a defensive lineman. He made the team and played in his first regular season game on June 30, 2016, as a backup defensive end. In 2016, he played in five games and made two tackles on special teams (plays like kickoffs and punts). He was released the next year but re-signed with the Roughriders on May 20, 2018. He signed another contract extension on December 21, 2020.
Joining the Edmonton Elks
Jordan Reaves moved to the Edmonton Elks on February 15, 2022. In 2022, he played in eight regular season games and made two special teams tackles. The Elks re-signed him on July 3, 2023. During the 2023 season, he played in 11 games and made seven special teams tackles. His contract ended on February 13, 2024, making him a free agent.
About Jordan Reaves' Family
Jordan comes from a family of talented athletes! He is the youngest son of Willard Reaves, who was also a professional football player. Willard played as a running back for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for five years and was part of the team that won the 72nd Grey Cup.
Jordan's older brother is Ryan Reaves, a professional hockey player. Ryan plays as a right wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League.
Jordan Reaves also has a fascinating family history. He is the great-great-great-grandson of Bass Reeves. Bass Reeves was a former slave who became the first black lawman west of the Mississippi River. He was also one of the first black U.S. deputy marshals. Bass Reeves' amazing life story is even featured in a 2023 TV series called Lawmen: Bass Reeves. He worked as a deputy U.S. marshal in Fort Smith, Arkansas, under a famous judge named Isaac C. Parker.
