Jorge Loring y Oyarzábal, 1st Marquis of Casa Loring was an important Spanish noble, politician, and businessman in the 1800s. He was known for his work in business and government.
His grandson, Jorge Loring Martinez, later started a company called Talleres Loring. This company built important aircraft like the Loring R-1, the Loring R-2, and the Loring R-3.

Biography
Jorge Loring y Oyarzábal was born on August 20, 1822, in Málaga, Spain. His father was George Loring from Hingham, Massachusetts, and his mother was Maria Del Rosario Oyarzabal from Cadiz.
Education and Citizenship
Jorge and his brothers studied in the United States. He went to Harvard University, where he studied engineering. He was a citizen of both the United States and Spain.
Marriage and Family Life
In 1850, Jorge married Amalia Heredia Livermore from Málaga. Amalia was the daughter of Manuel Heredia and Isabel Livermore. She was a very smart and educated woman.
Amalia was raised with a good education for her time. She had strong Catholic beliefs, traveled to other countries, and loved fine arts.
Jorge and Amalia had eight children together. Five of their children either became Spanish nobles or married into noble families. Their grandson, Jorge Loring Martinez, became a successful aviation inventor and business owner. Another great-grandson, Jorge Loring Miró SJ, is a well-known Spanish Jesuit priest who has written many books.
A distant relative, Vittoria Eugenia Alvarez de Toledo y Marone-Cinzano, is the 7th and current Marquesa de Casa Loring. She is also a cousin of King Juan Carlos of Spain.
Career and Noble Title
Jorge Loring y Oyarzábal helped build the first railroad in Andalusia. This railroad connected Cordova to Málaga.
In 1856, he was given the noble title of Marquis de Casa Loring. He also started the Bank of Málaga and founded a newspaper called El Correo de Andalucía. He supported businesses that worked with metal refining and lead smelting.
Political Career
From 1873 to 1890, Jorge Loring lived in Madrid. During this time, he served as a Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) and a senator for many years. This meant he helped make laws and represent the people in the Spanish government.
Legacy
La Concepcion Gardens
Mrs. Amalia Loring and her husband created a beautiful place called La Concepción Gardens in Málaga. They named the gardens after their youngest daughter.
Today, La Concepción is one of the most important and beautiful tropical botanical gardens in Spain. It is also considered one of the best in Europe. The garden was originally part of the Loring family farm.
Loringiano Museum
In 1859, the Marquis opened a museum to show his collection of ancient artifacts. This collection has grown over time. It is now part of the present-day Museum of Málaga.
