José Manuel Campa Fernández (born 20 July 1964) is an important Spanish economist and professor. He has held several key roles in finance and government. Since May 2019, he has been the leader of the European Banking Authority. Before this, he worked at Santander Bank and was a top government official in Spain.

About José Manuel Campa
José Manuel Campa was born on July 20, 1964. He studied law and economics at the University of Oviedo in Spain. Later, he earned a special degree called a PhD in economics from Harvard University in the United States.
Early Career and Government Role
Before working for the government, Campa was a finance professor. He taught at the IESE Business School at the University of Navarre.
From May 2009 to December 2011, he served as the Secretary of State for Economy in the Spanish government. This meant he was a very important official helping to manage Spain's economy. He worked under the Prime Minister at that time, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
Working with Global Financial Groups
Campa has also shared his knowledge with many big financial organizations. He has been an advisor for groups like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. These organizations help countries around the world with their money and economies. He also advised the European Commission and the Bank of Spain.
Role at Santander Bank
In 2014, José Manuel Campa joined Santander Bank. He became the Director of Investor Relations and Analysts. This role involved talking to investors and helping them understand the bank's financial situation. Even while working at the bank, he continued to teach finance as a visiting professor.
Leading the European Banking Authority
In February 2019, José Manuel Campa was chosen to lead the European Banking Authority (EBA). The EBA is an important organization that helps make sure banks in Europe are safe and stable. It sets rules for banks and works to protect customers.
The European Parliament officially approved his nomination in March 2019. He started his new job as Chairperson of the EBA on May 1, 2019. In February 2024, he was asked to continue leading the EBA for another five years, until May 2029.
