José María Merino is a famous Spanish writer born in A Coruña, Galicia, on March 5, 1941. He has two daughters, María and Ana, who are both university professors. His daughter Ana Merino is also a well-known poet. José María Merino lived in León for several years and now lives in Madrid. He is most famous for his novels and short stories, but he also writes poetry and travel books.
He is seen as one of the most important Spanish writers of our time. He has written many books, and they are all very good. He writes all kinds of stories, poems, and essays. He has won many important awards for his work. Mr. Merino is also a master of short stories and has put together many collections of them.
José María Merino enjoys sharing his knowledge with younger writers and students. He has taught many writing workshops and courses at different universities. Some of these include Dartmouth College and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid.
Merino was chosen to be a member of the Real Academia Española on March 27, 2008. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language. He officially took his seat on April 19, 2009.
