José María Merino is a famous Spanish writer. He was born in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain, on March 5, 1941. He has two daughters, María and Ana, who are both university professors. His daughter Ana Merino is also a poet.
José María Merino lived in León for many years. Now, he lives in Madrid. He is best known for his novels and short stories. He also writes poetry and travel books. Many people think he is one of the most important Spanish writers today.
He has written many books and stories. He writes different kinds of stories, poems, and essays. He has won many important awards for his writing. He is especially good at writing short stories. He has also helped put together important collections of short stories.
Mr. Merino is also a great teacher. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with young writers and students. He has led many writing workshops and courses. He has taught at different universities and writing schools. These include Dartmouth College and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid.
Merino was chosen to be a member of the Real Academia Española on March 27, 2008. This is a very important group that looks after the Spanish language. He officially joined the group on April 19, 2009.
