Félix de la Concha began his art career early. In 1985, he was chosen for a special young artists' show in Madrid, where his work won an award. Since then, he has had many art shows. These shows have been mostly in Europe and the United States. Some famous places where his art has been shown include the Columbus Museum of Art (1998) and the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh (1999).

Félix de la Concha's Art Projects

Painting Daily Views

One of Félix de la Concha's most famous projects is called One A Day: 365 Views of the Cathedral of Learning. For this project, he painted the same building every single day for a whole year while he was living in Pittsburgh. This amazing series of paintings is now a permanent display at the University of Pittsburgh's Alumni Hall.

He has also created other series of paintings in different cities. These include Rome, where he lived for several years on a scholarship. He also painted series in Santander, Seville, and Cairo.

Unique Portraits and Conversations

Félix de la Concha has a special way of painting portraits. He often films the person he is painting while they talk. You can watch the painting come to life, from a blank canvas to the finished artwork. He paints these portraits quickly, usually in one sitting, without using photos or sketches.

He uses a term called pictorial anacoluthon. This means that sometimes, like in spoken language, there might be small "mistakes" or incomplete parts in the painting. But for him, these "mistakes" are actually a way to express more feeling and meaning in the art. Even with this unique approach, his paintings show amazing detail.

The first time he showed these special portraits was in 2008 at the Museo Contemporáneo de Madrid. In 2009, 51 of his portraits were shown at the Hood Museum of Art. These paintings explored the ideas of Conflict and Reconciliation.

Connecting with Communities

Félix de la Concha enjoys painting people from different communities. He has worked in places like New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa, and Pennsylvania in the USA, as well as in his home country of Spain. A very important project he has worked on is painting and interviewing Holocaust survivors from all over the world.

More recently, he has explored how music and art can connect. He is interested in synaesthesia, which is when your senses mix, like seeing colors when you hear music. He even did a performance with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, where he painted while they played.

He also had a special chance to live and paint at Fallingwater, a famous house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This project was called Fallingwater En Perspectiva.
