Early Life and Education

Political Career
Joining the Christian Democratic Union
In 1957, Josef Duchač joined the Christian Democratic Union in East Germany. This party was different from the one in West Germany at the time.
Role in German Reunification

Becoming Minister-President of Thuringia

Resignation from Office
Josef Duchač served as Minister-President until early 1992. On January 23, 1992, he announced he would step down. This decision came after questions were raised about his past connections. He was succeeded by Bernhard Vogel on February 5, 1992.
