Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, born on March 27, 1952, in Alcampell, Spain, is a well-known Spanish politician. He is also a trained lawyer. His political journey began in 1979 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in Spain's General Elections.
He represented the area of Lleida and also served as a deputy mayor, known as tinent d'alcalde, in the city of Lleida. As of 2025, Duran i Lleida is an MP for the Barcelona district. He was first elected to this role in the General Elections of 2004. He is a member of a political group called Convergence and Union (CiU).
Duran i Lleida has also been the president of Democratic Union of Catalonia (UDC). This political party is part of the larger CiU group. He has held the position of president for UDC since 1987, and he also served in this role earlier, from 1982 to 1984.

Advocating for Kosovo's Recognition
In March 2012, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida took part in an important discussion with the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy. During this debate, Duran i Lleida strongly asked Spain to officially recognize Kosovo as an independent country right away. He explained that the reasons Spain had for not recognizing Kosovo were not about international rules but about issues within Spain itself.
