Joseph Grant Beale (born March 26, 1839 – died May 21, 1915) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party. Beale served as a U.S. Representative for the state of Pennsylvania. This means he was elected to represent people from Pennsylvania in the U.S. Congress.

Early Life and Education
Joseph G. Beale was born near Freeport, Pennsylvania. This area is located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He went to school at Caton Academy in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. Later, he also studied at the Iron City Commercial College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Military Service in the Civil War
During the American Civil War, Joseph Beale joined the army. He first served for three months in a group called the Friend Rifles. After that, he became a captain in Company C. This company was part of the Ninth Regiment of the Pennsylvania Reserves. He served in this role for three years.
- Captured During Service
During his time in the war, Captain Beale was taken prisoner. He was held in a prison called Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. He stayed there until he was released as part of a prisoner exchange.
Career in Business and Politics
After the war, Joseph Beale began to study law. He also served as a major in the Pennsylvania State Militia. However, he decided to stop studying law. Instead, he started working in the coal business near Pittsburgh.
- Moving into Iron and Steel
In 1868, Beale moved to Leechburg, Pennsylvania. There, he became very involved in the iron and steel industries. He also became the president of the Leechburg Banking Co.
- Serving in Congress
Joseph Beale was elected to the Sixtieth Congress. He served as a Republican representative. However, he did not win re-election in 1908. After his time in Congress, he went back to his business work.
Later Life
Joseph Grant Beale passed away in Leechburg in 1915. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
