Joshua Lee Bell, born on November 13, 1986, is a former professional baseball player from America. He was a third baseman, which means he played a specific position on the baseball field. Josh Bell played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for teams like the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks between 2010 and 2012. He also played in the KBO League in South Korea for the LG Twins in 2014.

Josh Bell's Baseball Journey

Starting with the Dodgers

Josh Bell began his professional baseball career when the Los Angeles Dodgers picked him in the fourth round of the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. This happened right after he finished high school at Santaluces High School in Florida. He spent his first year playing for the Gulf Coast Dodgers.

In 2006, Josh played for the Ogden Raptors. He did really well, hitting for a .308 batting average. He was even chosen for the Pioneer League Post-Season All-Star team! He was one of the top players in the league for home runs, extra-base hits, and RBIs.

Moving Up in the Minor Leagues

Josh continued to play in the minor leagues, spending 2007 with two different teams: the Great Lakes Loons and the Inland Empire 66ers. In 2008, he started with Inland Empire but had to take a break after having knee surgery in June.

By 2009, he was promoted to the Double-A team, the Chattanooga Lookouts. He played so well that he was selected for the mid-season Southern League All-Star team. During the All-Star game, Josh hit a home run and had two RBIs, earning him the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player award!

Playing for the Baltimore Orioles

On July 30, 2009, Josh Bell and his teammate Steve Johnson were traded to the Baltimore Orioles. This was a big step in his career.

On July 1, 2010, Josh was called up to play in Major League Baseball for the Orioles. He got his chance when another player, Luke Scott, got injured. After the Orioles traded their third baseman, Miguel Tejada, Josh became the main third baseman for the rest of the 2010 season. In 2011, he was sent to the Orioles' Triple-A team in Norfolk to continue developing his skills.

In April 2012, the Orioles made a roster change and Josh was moved off the main team.

Time with the Arizona Diamondbacks

Soon after, on April 21, 2012, Josh was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was first sent to their Triple-A team, the Reno Aces. He was called up to the Diamondbacks' main team on May 21.

After playing in 52 games for the Diamondbacks, Josh became a free agent at the end of the season. This meant he could choose which team he wanted to play for next.

Other Teams and Later Career

Josh Bell continued his baseball journey, signing minor league contracts with several other teams.

  • Chicago White Sox: In January 2013, he signed with the Chicago White Sox and played for their Triple-A team in Charlotte. He was released in May of that year.
  • New York Yankees: In May 2013, he joined the New York Yankees organization, playing for their Triple-A team, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He played 37 games before being released in July.

Playing and Coaching for the Barnstormers

After the 2016 season, Josh decided to retire from playing full-time. He became the hitting coach for the Barnstormers for the 2017 season. However, he also played some games for the team in 2017, 2018, and 2019, sometimes as a player-coach. He officially became a free agent after the 2019 season.
