Career as an Explorer and Host

Hosting Digging for the Truth

Digging for the Truth was a popular TV series on the History Channel. In the show, Bernstein explored ancient mysteries all over the world. The show started in January 2005 and quickly became the most-watched series in the channel's history.

Bernstein hosted the show for three seasons. His last episode was on April 16, 2007. The show continued for one more season without him before it was canceled.

He also wrote a book called Digging for the Truth: One Man's Epic Adventure Exploring the World's Greatest Archaeological Mysteries. The book gives a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges he faced while making the show.

Leading a Survival School

Besides being a TV host, Bernstein was also the head of the Boulder Outdoor Survival School (BOSS). This is the oldest and biggest survival school in the world. It teaches people how to live using traditional skills in the wild.

Bernstein's journey with BOSS began when he was a 17-year-old student there in 1988. He loved it so much that he came back to work his way up from an apprentice to an instructor. He eventually became the owner and president of the school in 1997. In 2014, he sold the school to work on new projects.

Hosting Into the Unknown

In 2007, Bernstein moved to the Discovery Channel. He created and hosted a new show called Into the Unknown with Josh Bernstein. The show premiered in August 2008 but only lasted for one season.

The Man in the Hat

Bernstein has been a guest on many TV news shows, like Good Morning America and The Today Show. He is famous for often wearing cowboy hats on his adventures.

Because of his adventures and his hat, some people compared him to the movie character Indiana Jones. The History Channel even used this comparison in its ads. However, Bernstein has pointed out that he doesn't wear a fedora like Indiana Jones does. He says his style is just his own.
