Josh Charnley, born on June 26, 1991, is a professional rugby league player from England. He plays as a winger for the Leigh Leopards in the top-level Super League competition.
Before joining Leigh, Josh played for the Warrington Wolves and the Wigan Warriors. With Wigan, he helped his team win the Super League Grand Final in 2013 and 2016. He also spent time on loan at Blackpool Panthers and Hull Kingston Rovers. Josh has also represented his country, playing for the England Knights and the senior England team.
Interestingly, Josh also played rugby union for the Sale Sharks in the Aviva Premiership, which is a different type of rugby.

About Josh Charnley
Josh Charnley was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England. He started playing rugby at a young age for local teams. First, he played for Chorley Panthers. Then, he joined Wigan St Patricks, which led him to the famous Super League club, the Wigan Warriors.
Josh's Rugby League Career
In 2010, Josh played many games for Wigan's Under 20s team. He then got a chance to play for Blackpool Panthers and Hull Kingston Rovers on loan. This helped him get experience in the Super League. He made his Super League debut for Hull KR, showing great promise. He even scored five tries in just five games, including three tries in one match against Castleford Tigers.
Playing for Wigan Warriors
Josh made his first team debut for Wigan in August 2010. He scored a try in that game, showing his talent right away.
In 2011, he played in the 2011 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. Wigan won against the Leeds Rhinos. Josh scored the first try in that big game, even though he broke a bone in his hand during the match!
The 2012 season was amazing for Josh. He scored 31 tries, helping Wigan win the League Leaders' Shield. This made him one of the top try-scorers in a regular Super League season.
His 2013 season was even better! He scored a record-breaking 43 tries. That year, Wigan won both the Challenge Cup and the Super League Grand Final. This is known as winning "the double." He played in the Challenge Cup Final against Hull F.C. at Wembley. He also played in the 2013 Super League Grand Final where Wigan beat the Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford.
In 2014, Josh scored two tries in the 2014 World Club Challenge against the Sydney Roosters. He also scored five tries in one game against Widnes Vikings. Even though he was injured for two months, he still scored 23 tries in 21 games that season.
He played in the 2014 Super League Grand Final against St Helens, but Wigan lost that game. In 2016, it was announced that Josh would switch to rugby union. He finished his time at Wigan in style. He scored the winning try in the 2016 Super League Grand Final against Warrington.
Switching to Rugby Union
On March 30, 2016, Josh moved to rugby union to play for Sale Sharks. They play in the Aviva Premiership. However, Josh didn't score as many tries in rugby union. He scored four tries in 32 games. In 2018, he decided to return to rugby league.
Playing for Warrington Wolves
Josh returned to rugby league in 2018, joining the Warrington Wolves in the Super League. He played in two big finals that year. He was in the 2018 Challenge Cup Final where Warrington lost to the Catalans Dragons. He also played in the 2018 Super League Grand Final where they lost to his old team, the Wigan Warriors.
In 2019, Josh played in the 2019 Challenge Cup Final again. This time, Warrington won against St. Helens at Wembley Stadium.
Time with Leigh Leopards
On June 25, 2022, Josh signed a loan deal with Leigh Leopards, who were in the Championship at the time. He then signed a permanent contract for 2023. He scored a try on his debut for Leigh in a big win against Workington Town.
In 2023, Leigh was back in the Super League. Josh scored two tries in a close win against Hull Kingston Rovers. He also scored three tries in a game against Hull F.C.. On August 12, 2023, Josh played a key role as Leigh won the 2023 Challenge Cup final against Hull Kingston Rovers.
He played 26 games for Leigh in the 2023 Super League season, scoring 27 tries. Leigh finished fifth and made it to the playoffs. In May 2024, Josh scored his 300th career try in a game against Salford Red Devils. He continued to play well for Leigh in the 2024 season.
International Career
Josh first played for the England Knights in 2011. He scored two tries and kicked four goals in a game against France.
He made his debut for the senior England team in 2012. In his first game for England, he scored four tries against Wales. He also played in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. He scored a try against Australia and two tries against France in the quarter-final. In the 2014 Rugby League Four Nations, he scored a try against New Zealand.
