Josip Pirmajer (born February 14, 1944 – died June 24, 2018) was a famous football player and coach. He was from Slovenia and played as a winger, which is a type of midfielder. He also played for the national team of Yugoslavia.

Josip Pirmajer's Football Journey

Early Life and Club Career

Josip Pirmajer was born in Trbovlje, a town in what is now Slovenia. When he was a young child, his family moved to Srbobran, Serbia. His amazing football talent was noticed when he was still in elementary school. He joined the youth team of Elan Srbobran.

At just 16 years old, with special permission from doctors, he started playing for Elan Srbobran's main team. After only a few games, bigger clubs noticed his skills. Soon after, he joined RFK Novi Sad.

He started playing for RFK Novi Sad in the 1960–61 season. That year, Novi Sad made history! They won the 1960–61 Yugoslav Second League and were promoted to the top league, the Yugoslav First League. Pirmajer played for Novi Sad in the First League for two and a half seasons.

In the winter of the 1963–64 season, he moved to FK Partizan, a very big club in the capital city. He played for Partizan for four and a half seasons. During this time, he helped them win a championship. He also played in the 1966 European Cup Final, where Partizan was the runner-up. A cool fact about his time at Partizan is that he played 252 games in a row without missing any!

In the summer of 1967, Pirmajer returned to Novi Sad. This time, he joined FK Vojvodina. He played four more seasons in Yugoslavia's top football league. After that, he played for two and a half seasons in France with Nîmes Olympique in their top league, Ligue 1.

In the winter of 1974–75, Pirmajer came back to Yugoslavia. He was 30 years old and rejoined his old club, RFK Novi Sad. He played there until the summer of 1977 in the Yugoslav Second League.

Playing for His Country

Josip Pirmajer played for all the youth teams of Yugoslavia. He even played for the Olympic team! In 1964, he made his debut for the main Yugoslav national team. He played four games for his country.

Life After Playing: Manager and Sportsman

After he stopped playing football, Pirmajer became a coach. He worked for many different clubs, including RFK Novi Sad, FK Jedinstvo Novi Bečej, FK Vojvodina, FK Elan Srbobran, FK Beograd, FK Sileks, FK Big Bull Bačinci, and FK Bečej.

Pirmajer continued to live in Serbia. He even became the president of FK Srbobran.

In 2009, the Sports Association of Srbobran gave Pirmajer a special award. They recognized him as the most successful sportsman from Srbobran. They also thanked him for helping sports grow in the area. Besides being an amazing footballer, Pirmajer also played handball, basketball, and table tennis!
