Josip Pivarić (born on January 30, 1989) is a Croatian football player who used to play as a left-back. He was known for his strong defense and ability to help in attacks.

Josip Pivarić's Football Journey
Starting at Dinamo Zagreb
Josip Pivarić started playing football at a young age in the Dinamo Zagreb youth academy. He joined the main team in 2008. That same year, he was loaned to Lokomotiva Zagreb, another club connected to Dinamo. He played 13 games for Lokomotiva in his first season.
In January 2009, Josip signed a long contract with Dinamo Zagreb. He continued to play for Lokomotiva on loan until the end of the 2011–12 season.
Playing for Dinamo's Senior Team
In January 2012, Pivarić returned to Dinamo Zagreb's senior team. He played his first game for Dinamo on February 25, 2012, in a match against Karlovac, which Dinamo won 3–0. He scored his first goal for Dinamo on April 21, 2012, in a 1–1 draw against Rijeka.
A memorable moment for Pivarić and Dinamo happened in September 2015. He scored the first goal in a famous 2–1 victory over Arsenal in the 2015–16 UEFA Champions League. This was a big win for the club.
In January 2016, Pivarić got a serious knee injury during a friendly match. This injury kept him from playing for the rest of the 2015–16 season. It also meant he could not be chosen for the UEFA Euro 2016 national team. He returned to play on July 6, 2016, in a friendly game against Copenhagen.
Moving to Dynamo Kyiv
On August 8, 2017, Josip Pivarić signed a three-year contract with the Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv. He played for them until 2020.
Returning to Lokomotiva Zagreb
On October 1, 2020, Pivarić returned to Lokomotiva Zagreb. He joined them as a free player, meaning his contract with Dynamo Kyiv had ended. He played for Lokomotiva until 2023.
Ending His Career
On July 1, 2023, Josip Pivarić announced that he was retiring from football. He was 34 years old when he stopped playing professionally.
Playing for His Country: Croatia
Josip Pivarić made his first appearance for the Croatia national football team on August 14, 2013. This was in a 3–2 win against Liechtenstein.
In May 2018, he was chosen for Croatia's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. During the tournament, the main left-back, Ivan Strinić, had some injuries. This gave Pivarić many chances to play as Croatia made it all the way to the World Cup Final. Croatia finished as the runner-up in the tournament.
Pivarić played a total of 26 games for the Croatian national team. He did not score any goals for his country. His last international game was a friendly match against Jordan in October 2018.
