José Faustino Sánchez Carrión was an important Peruvian politician who helped Peru become an independent country. He was born on February 13, 1787, in Huamachuco, which is in Trujillo. He passed away on June 2, 1825, in Lurín, near Lima.

People sometimes called him the "Solitary man from Sayán." He played a huge part in setting up Peru's first government after it gained independence. He believed in a republican system, where citizens elect their leaders, instead of a king ruling.

Early Life and Ideas

José Faustino Sánchez Carrión was a strong supporter of freedom and new ideas. He helped write Peru's very first political rulebook, called a constitution. This constitution was based on liberal ideas, which meant it focused on individual rights and freedoms.

He was also part of a special group that traveled to Guayaquil. Their mission was to invite the famous leader Simon Bolivar to come to Peru. Bolivar was a key figure in freeing many South American countries from Spanish rule.

Working with Simón Bolívar

Sánchez Carrión became a close helper and general minister for Simón Bolívar. He was with Bolívar during his successful campaigns in Peru. He helped gather all the supplies and resources needed for the United Liberating Army.

This army was made up of soldiers from different groups, including those from Peru, Gran Colombia, and the Expedición Libertadora del Perú. This powerful army won important battles like the Battle of Junín and the Battle of Ayacucho. These victories were crucial for Peru's independence.

Important Government Roles

José Faustino Sánchez Carrión held several important jobs in the new Peruvian government. From April to October 1824, he was the Minister of Finance of Peru. This meant he was in charge of the country's money.

After that, from 1824 to 1825, he served as Peru's Minister of Government and Foreign Relations. In this role, he helped manage the country's internal affairs and its relationships with other nations. He even signed the invitations that Simón Bolívar sent for the Congress of Panama. This was a big meeting where American nations planned to work together.

Sadly, Sánchez Carrión died young, at just 38 years old, from an unknown illness. His contributions were vital in shaping Peru's early years as an independent republic.
