José Enrique Jerí Oré (born 13 November 1986) is a Peruvian politician and lawyer. He has been the 65th President of Peru since 10 October 2025. He is a member of the Somos Perú (We Are Peru) political party.
Before becoming president, he was a member of the Congress of the Republic for Lima starting in 2021. He also served as the President of the Congress in 2025. On 10 October 2025, the Congress made a decision that led to the previous president, Dina Boluarte, leaving her position. As the President of the Congress, José Jerí then became the new president of Peru, following the country's constitution.

His Early Life and Education
José Jerí was born in the Jesús María District of Lima, Peru. His birthday is 13 November 1986. He grew up in Peru's capital city.
He pursued higher education at two universities. He graduated from Federico Villarreal National University in 2014. The next year, in 2015, he earned his law degree. This education prepared him for his future career.
His Journey in Peruvian Politics
José Jerí began his political career by running for the Peruvian Congress. He was elected in the 2021 Congressional election. In this role, he represented the people of Lima.

Becoming President of Peru
On 26 July 2025, José Jerí took on an even more important role. He became the President of the Peruvian Congress. This position is very significant. It meant he was next in line to become the country's president if something happened to the current president.
On 10 October 2025, the Congress made a decision regarding the previous president, Dina Boluarte. Following this decision, she left her office. Because José Jerí was the President of the Congress at that time, he became the new President of Peru. This change happened according to the rules in Peru's constitution.
