JuVaughn Krishna Harrison, born on April 30, 1999, is an amazing American athlete. He is famous for competing in two exciting sports: the high jump and the long jump. JuVaughn won a silver medal in the high jump at the World Championships in 2023.

JuVaughn Harrison's Athletic Journey

Early Life and High School Years

JuVaughn Harrison grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. He went to Columbia High School there. Even in high school, he was a very talented athlete. He could jump really high and far. His best high jump was 7 feet 2 inches. His best long jump was 23 feet 0.5 inches.

College Success at LSU

JuVaughn went to LSU for college. He became a star athlete there. On March 12, 2021, he made history in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He set new personal bests in both the high jump and the long jump. A personal best (PB) is the best performance an athlete has ever achieved.

He jumped 2.30 meters (about 7 feet 6.5 inches) in the high jump. He also jumped 8.45 meters (about 27 feet 8.5 inches) in the long jump. This made him the first man ever to jump at least 8.40 meters in the long jump and 2.30 meters in the high jump. That's a huge achievement!

Later in 2021, on June 27, JuVaughn won both the long jump and high jump at the US Olympic Trials. These trials decide which athletes get to go to the Olympics. He then went to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He was the first American man since 1912 to compete in both the long jump and high jump at the Olympics. The last person to do it was Jim Thorpe.

Becoming a Professional Athlete

After the Olympic Trials in 2021, JuVaughn Harrison became a professional athlete. He signed a deal with Puma. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he finished 5th in the long jump. He placed 7th in the high jump.

In 2023, JuVaughn won a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. He cleared the same height as the winner, Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy. Both jumped 2.36 meters (about 7 feet 9 inches). But Tamberi won gold because he had fewer missed jumps.
