JuVaughn Krishna Harrison (born April 30, 1999) is an American track and field athlete. He is amazing at both the high jump and the long jump. He won a silver medal in the high jump at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

JuVaughn Harrison's Athletic Journey

Early Years and High School Sports

JuVaughn Harrison grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. He went to Columbia High School. Even in high school, he showed great talent in track and field. He could high jump over 7 feet 2 inches. He also long jumped more than 23 feet.

College Success at LSU

Harrison continued his amazing athletic career in college. He attended LSU. On March 12, 2021, he made history in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He set new personal bests in both the high jump and long jump. He jumped 2.30 meters (about 7 feet 6 inches) in the high jump. He also jumped 8.45 meters (about 27 feet 8 inches) in the long jump. This made him the first man ever to jump over 8.40 meters in the long jump and 2.30 meters in the high jump.

Harrison won many national championships while in college. He won six NCAA titles. These include both the high jump and long jump in 2019 and 2021. He also won both events indoors in 2021.

Competing in the Olympics

In 2021, Harrison made the US Olympic team. He won both the long jump and high jump at the US Olympic Trials. This event took place in Eugene, Oregon. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he did something special. He became the first American man since Jim Thorpe in 1912 to compete in both the long jump and high jump at the Olympics. He finished 5th in the long jump and 7th in the high jump.

Becoming a Professional Athlete

After the Olympics, JuVaughn Harrison became a professional athlete. He signed a deal with Puma. In 2023, he earned a silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. He tied for first place in height with 2.36 meters. However, he got the silver medal based on a tie-breaking rule. The gold medal went to Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy.
