Juan Antonio de Urbiztondo y Eguía (born January 7, 1803, in San Sebastián; died April 26, 1857, in Madrid) was an important Spanish military leader. He also held the title of marquis of La Solana.

Early Military Career
Juan Antonio de Urbiztondo began his military journey in 1814. He started as a knight's page in the Spanish Army. This was a common way for young people to learn about military life.
Fighting for the King
Urbiztondo was involved in conflicts against the government of the Trienio Liberal. This was a time when Spain had a liberal government. Later, he became an inspector for the Voluntarios Realistas. This group supported the king and traditional ways.
Political Challenges
In 1833, Urbiztondo faced some difficulties. He was suspected of being connected to a political movement called Carlism. This movement supported a different line of succession to the Spanish throne.
Escape to Portugal
Because of these suspicions, Urbiztondo was held in Mérida. However, he managed to escape from there. He then traveled to Portugal to find safety.
Governor of the Philippines
Juan Antonio de Urbiztondo later became the 73rd Governor-General of the Philippines. This was a very important role. He served in this position from July 29, 1850, to December 20, 1853.
Leading a Colony
As Governor-General, he was in charge of the Spanish colony of the Philippines. He made many decisions that affected the lives of the people there. This role showed his leadership skills.
Minister of War
After his time in the Philippines, Urbiztondo returned to Spain. He was appointed as the Minister of War for the Kingdom of Spain. He held this high-ranking position from October 12, 1856, to December 16, 1856.
Serving the Monarch
As Minister of War, he was responsible for the country's military forces. He served under Isabella II of Spain, who was the Queen of Spain at that time.
