Early Life and Education
Juan Bordes was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on July 15, 1948. When he was young, from 1957 to 1960, he took sculpture classes. He studied at the School of Las Palmas Luján Pérez with a teacher named Abraham Cárdenas.
Later, from 1965 to 1972, he moved to Madrid to continue his studies. He went to the School of Architecture in Madrid (ETSA). He also studied at the School of Ceramics Moncloa and took drawing classes at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, a well-known art school in Madrid.
Teaching and Research
In 1976, Juan Bordes began teaching at the School of Architecture in Madrid (ETSA). He became a full professor of Architectural Composition in 1988.
In 1986, he earned a special degree called a PhD from the University of Madrid. For his PhD, he wrote a long paper about how sculpture is used in buildings. He studied how different rules for sculpture were used in Spanish, French, and Italian art books. His teacher for this project was Juan Navarro.

Juan Bordes is a member of several important art groups. He is a Corresponding Member of the Real Academia Canaria de Bellas Artes de San Miguel Arcángel.
